I would have thought a 20% deposit should be enough, showing good will on both sides.
I've had to pay a deposit by bank transfer twice. It's a bit costly at around £20 a transaction, however I never paid 50%.
We only take a £50 deposit, as Redrhino says shows goodwill on both sides. If anything does go wrong 50% could be a quite a lot to lose.
thats seems very high i only take £100 deposit with the balance payable 6 weeks before you arrive and a cancellation scale as time gets nearer to departure
We booked a villa this year, and the same one again for next year. We paid a 20% deposit, with the balance due eight weeks before the holiday (plus a £150 damages deposit which we got back once the holiday was over).
