The RomerÃÂÂa will take place on Sunday 26th September.
The Feria (fair) will take place from 29th September - 2nd October.
El dÃÂÂa de San Miguel is always on the 29th September and despite the threatened strike on the 29th, everything is still planned to go ahead because the banks and supermarkets will be closed anyway, with or without a strike.
I was fuming when I found out the RomerÃÂÂa is taking place on the 26th, because I went into the tourist office in la Carihuela at the end of June and asked for the date of the RomerÃÂÂa, and I was told it would take place on the 19th, in fact I wasn't told, she actually wrote the dates down on a piece of paper, which I still have, and therefore I came home and booked the apartment and flights around this date.......which now means I will just catch the RomerÃÂÂa and the procession during the evening of the 29th, but will miss the feria.
We can go to Torremolinos any day of the year and I specifically wanted to go for the fiesta, so if the stupid woman had given me the right dates, I could have gone next week and seen everything....I'm not bothered about the amusements at the feria, but there's a lot of cultural events taking place in the surrounding casetas and in the auditorium.
I'm not a happy bunny when someone feeds me false information and they are getting paid to give out correct info.
Anyway, rant over and if you're in Torre during these dates, enjoy the events and the atmosphere.
Sanji
Aww that's very disappointing Sanji, I know how much you were looking forward to the Fiesta etc. Is there any possibility that the dates may have been altered since you were given your information as you'd have thought it was one of those events that most of the locals (let alone the information staff) knew off pat?
Apologies for my mini rant, it's just the frustration and the disappointment coming out because this fiesta only happens once a year for a few days, and I think my videos will speak for how much I love this fiesta.
Last year I dropped the camcorder in Malaga Airport and without going into the details again, I lost a lot of footage, especially the procession through the streets of Torremolinos on the evening of San Miguel day ( 29th), the feria and the events in the casetas and the auditorium.
The date for "San Miguel day" (29th Sept) never changes, but the dates for the RomerÃÂÂa and the feria do fluctuate from one year to the next, and last year the RomerÃÂÂa took place on the 20th.
Usually, the RomerÃÂÂa takes place on the Sunday before San Miguel day, unless the 29th falls on a Monday and then it will take place on the Sunday the week before.
I'm annoyed because at the time I questioned the date of the RomerÃÂÂa because I thought to myself that this was getting further and further away from the 29th, and I said to her "are you sure because this is making it nearly a 2 week fiesta"?.
I would have thought when I asked on the 30th June, that with less than 12 weeks before the event, she would have known the correct date because you don't organise an event like this in a matter of weeks.
I suppose it is possible for the date to have been moved since I asked, but I think I could do a better job working in the tourist office because she told one of our members the train times and let her struggle pulling a suitcase up the hill to Montemar train station, and didn't tell her about the bus that runs passed her hotel every 30 mins and goes passed the station.....it's little things like that.!
I'm just bitterly disappointed because instead of going this Thursday, we could have gone any time next week and next year I'll not bother asking in the tourist office, I'll get in contact directly with Torremolinos Ayuntamiento.
I'm also annoyed because I've told several people that the RomerÃÂÂa is on the 19th, which makes me look a complete fool.!
Arggggggh !
Sanji
Sanji, Although it won't alter things, I think a little visit to the tourist office is in order when you get there These people need to know that they just can't fob people off.
Yep looks like she's made an exact 7 day error...... I can understand why you are upset.

LOL, that would be a dangerous thing to do, especially if I took her piece of paper back and told her if she doesn't like her job, then find another one.
I can't change things, but I feel better for getting that off my chest because it's been brewing for a few weeks, and the mistake could have ruined someone's holiday, especially if you've got kiddies looking forward to the feria.

Aha the evidence!! (Wonder is she was trying to keep all the tourists away )
So, I don't believe the date has been changed since June, the organisation and the posters/booklets would have to be finalised ready for print many weeks ahead, so I think she made the assumption, but now I'm just as annoyed with myself over this, for taking the word of someone who looks about as interested in her job, as Dracula at a church service.
You live and learn.!

I got a good spot to film this year, up near the church in El Calvario barrio... I was stood in a gigantic flower pot, with my feet between the flowers so that I didn´t damage them and I was high enough to film over people´s heads.
After standing around for nearly 3 hours, Dave was getting tired and having a few twinges from his hernia, so we didn´t follow them into the pine woods this year, we made our way back down into Torremolinos centre and caught the train back to El Pinillo.....poor sod is crashed out asleep now.
It´s been a great day and a great holiday, we´ve a few more days left until Thursday morning, I´m hoping to catch the procession through Torremolinos on Wednesday evening.
We´ve been here, there and everywhere, but still not made it to Malaga and I don´t think we´ll have time during the next few days.!
Apart from the Romeria, the best day was up in Benalmadena pueblo and we walked down the hill to film the castle dedicated to Christoper Columbus, but OMG that hill to walk back up was absolute agony, the gradient must been 1 in 3 and then the white knuckle ride on the bus coming down so quickly to sea level and the bus negotiating the roundabouts......it´s not for the faint hearted.
I can´t make my mind up about this camcorder, it´s been working ok, but now the battery doesn´t seem to be holding its charge, and today the fully charged battery went flat pretty quickly, so, I think I will have to buy a new one before we go to Australia in December...I suppose it´s best to find out now and not when in Oz.
Hasta Luego.

Glad you're having such a good time and loved the romeria. I'd love to have seen you in that flower pot Hoping to see the video when you return. Have you been videoing a lot this holiday or just the procession? As you know we're off to La carihuela around Easter and I'd love to see a bit more of the area on film before we get there.
Enjoy the rest of your stay

Hi Shirley|Glynis
Buenas Noches.
I´ve somehow managed to fill a tape up with the Romeria, Benalmadena pueblo, the castle, a bit more of La Carihuela, but Carihuela doesn´t change and the same with the Puerto Marina, so there seems no point doing the same thing again.......but I know there are one or two of you going to a certain hotel and apartments, so I filmed them and the area from the outside for you. (you know who you are). I´ll enjoy editing the video footage next week and I´ll get them posted ASAP.
I was hoping to get to Malaga, but that place seems to be jinked because we never seem to get there and now there´s only tomorrow or Tuesday left, because Wednesday is El Dia de San Miguel (San Miguel day) and the day of the general strike, and I´ve got to pack, clean the apartment through and hopefully go back to Torremolinos during the evening to film the procession, and maybe a long walk back.!
Dave is shattered tonight, so I´ve left him watching the TV and I don´t think he´ll be late in bed....it´s finally caught up with him, and it´s a good job he didn´t stand in the flower pot, otherwise we would have been Bill and Ben.!
I haven´t been on the computer as much as I usually am, posting things like the exchange rate and the weather, and I would just like to say a big thank you to the people who sent me a pm ..... last week was a very difficult time and I came here with a heavy heart....I received a phone call from my niece about 3 hours before the taxi was due to take us to the airport at 6am, to inform me that my sister had passed away, and for the next 3 hours we sat up drinking coffee and torn between staying at home or coming to Torremolinos.
Dave is the sensible one, he is the calming influence and the one who speaks sense when it´s needed.....I didn´t think I should be here, but after going into the church in La Carihuela and lighting a candle....I now think, she´ll know I was with her .....and receiving the Pm´s was very comforting, so thank you.
Besos
Sanji
It must have been a comforting moment for you lighting a candle for your sister in la carihuela. Once again, love and best wishes to you.
I'm really looking forward to watching your video on your return. Enjoy the last day or two of your break and I hope dave is refreshed after an early night.
speak soon,
shirley x
You definitely did the right thing in going Sanji, your sister will be with you wherever you are, in your heart. Take care and thinking of you
Hope Hubby makes it back without anymore pain..enjoy your last few days in the sunshine, weather here is horrible..x
The buglers got an easy night, I only heard them play once when they were nearly at the bottom of Calle San Miguel, so, I hope you like drums. There was a good atmosphere in Torremolinos on the 29th September, I have never seen so many people in the Calle San Miguel/La Nogalera Square area, in all my years of going to Torre.! Maybe having a day off for the general strike got them all in the party mood for the evening, and after the procession, hundreds of them headed up to the feria.
