lindy,
we have just returned from turkey, about 2 weeks ago & honestly we didn't splurge at all,but still spent £1400.i honestly don't know, where it goes.saying that,i don't drink beer,so cocktails were minimum 10 lira.some places had BOGOF for 15 lira, but i was going home sober, after drinking them,so it was false economy.
we are also not,lay on a sunbed, for a fortnight, kind of people,so when you are out & about, drinks soon add up.wish we could spend less
tracy
i suppose some might think that is splurging or excessive but both of us work hard, and unsociable hours and we don't really go out when at home, so we try to get away 4 times a year and feel comfortable with what we spend to have a relaxing time.
I just took 17 people for 7 days to Chicago. The whole trip came in at a little under £14500 and that included all transportation, accomodation and meals. So that comes in at £121 per person per day!
Speaking of £200 tights. My son came home yesterday and said he'd seen a pair of socks in one of the shops in town and they were £30!! I'd been in Asda at the weekend and seen a pair I liked and they were £1. I didn't buy them as I knew I could get 5 pairs for £3
£100 a day per person? What are you spending it on? That said, I have no idea what I spend per day, can't remember, and as I got paid twice on my last holiday, it just seemed to keep appearing and even though I spent too much, I didn't feel it, felt like magic money even though it's money I had made missing out on Christmas/New Year type of thing..
Tarry - our £100 spends is for the two of us, not each
also for 2 of us
....and two of us
We normally save and save until we go then split the money for each day once we are there and have paid for all the necessities (safety deposit box, excursions if we go with the TO, kettle etc). We tend to go SC and do a shop on the first day once we have settled in and then eat in for breakfast (cereal/toast) a picnic lunch (a couple of fresh rolls with fillings, fruit, crisps etc) but go out on an evening for a nice meal with a few drinks. We have also learnt that you dont have to pay a lot of money for a lovely meal. We do take our bank card so if something comes up then we have access to funds if necessary but try to manage on what we have. Usually we end up with around £80 per day and that is for 3 of us.
I don't save for the spends separately as I have a € account anyway as I work in Dublin every couple of weeks. I just transfer some £ to € whenever I see a good rate and I'll usually keep a fair amount of €'s in that account. Then just before a holiday I'll decide if I need to add any more... and if we're running short on holiday i can move £ to € online I don't 'splurge' on holiday, I eat out every night and if I want a cocktail, i have a cocktail but I'm on holiday to chill out and see somewhere new, not to go shopping!
I'm hoping when we go to Goa it may stretch a bit further.
That said, we have the attitude that we can have whatever we like on holiday and sod the cost. We don't have kids or expensive cars or lots of designer clothes and holidays are the one things we splurge on. I don't think we have often overspent though!
I would *never* book a holiday just because a celeb went there! How ridiculous!
