Hi Holiday truths.
This is my first post so sorry if I do anything wrong.
I just wondered if anyone could help me with somewhere to go on holiday next year.
Me and my partner are both 22 next year and would like to go abroad for this first time on our own (we went to florida this year with my family so we will a little braver now)
Were both not into clubbing as were a little quiet and just want somewhere nice and safe to go on holiday. We would like to stop in a nice hotel and be able to walk around a town and have lots of places to visit and excursions to do, oooh and also get a lovely sun tan, and some bars and pubs to visit at night.
We dont have a huge amount of money to spend (probably up to about £800 each) but have to go during school holidays due to work commitments. Our main concern is that we dont want to feel intimidated or anything if we go out of the hotel.
Does anyone have any ideas where we could go on holiday?
Thank you so much for all your help
I would be inclined to keep away from North Africa and Turkey and look at the more local [traditional to the British] resorts, Greece,Cyprus,Spain Portugal and the like,we dont want to feel intimidated or anything if we go out of the hotel.

Are there any resorts I should look for inparticular?
eg type of accommodation/board
deadly quiet/quite/lively/relaxing
scenery/history/
any special considerations
then i am sure members will chip in with a few suggestions
an example at the top of your range ..the 4 star Iberostar Plygos beach on Zakynthos flight LWG-ZTH on 25th july can be found around the £800 pp all inclusive plus 20€ each way for a taxi transfer this is a beutiful 4star in a quiet area nice views good food [if you dont mind greek & international
style] loads of trips can be booked including a day to Cefalonia.. for a pool side no worries and a bit of travel cant be beat in my opinion, some pictures on HTTV use the search facility for Plygos beach,
and when you give us some more info you will no doubt get lots of suggestions

Depends on how long you have for a holiday. If just one week you may be able to get a week in one of the Canaries. Playa Blanca in Lanzarote for example. Most of these places have some night life but are not renown for clubbing and all are safe for walking out at night.
Costa Del Sol maybe, parts of the region are quite upmarket, particularly Puerto Buenus, and Thomson have a couples hotel that I was looking at online which I quite fancied myself!!
Just do some research on the forum, there are loads of places which would meet your needs, good luck and let us know if you find anything and come back for any advise you may want......Caz.....
PS. Menorca is much too quiet for a young couple.
We dont really mind what board we are in the hotel we just want to have something to do, history or science related or waterparks, anything really, and we like some entertainment in the evening just not nightclubs or anything.
All of your suggestions sound great I will take a look at them all
Cala D'or Majorca is lovely!! Has a beautiful marina too !!
Cyprus, Crete or Rhodes have a good atmosphere,( Avoid the 18-30 areas, like Ayia Napa,Malia,Falaraki),lots of historical places to visit. Plenty of different types of accommodation from self catering to 4* hotels.
Good luck in your researching.

Were looking through all our holiday brochures now looking at all the places youve all suggested.
Hopefully we will find somewhere lovely to go soon.
The first place I went on holiday without my parents was the Greek Islands, there are so mamny to choose from that you are sure to find one that suits you. Have a look at Olympic holidays for some ideas.
After lots of looking were going all inclusive to the dominican republic. (I hope we will be ok there lol)
Thank you again and hope you all have brilliant holidays!!!!
It's not too long a flight, it's not totally "Greek" after all it's got a fabulous cricket ground in the middle of Corfu Town and some of the scenery is stunning.
We stayed in Sidari (the north of the island) a number of years ago in late August and took a drive out to Paleokastritsa and it was gorgeous. We took a boat trip out around the caves whilst we were there. Local transport was easy by bus service into Corfu Town.
Steer clear of Kavos (south) if you don't want an 18-30 Clubbing holiday.
Food was a mixture of local Greek dishes, European and British stuff. Sidari was a family oriented resort and we found it suited our needs with a good choice of nightlife and decent eateries. Good shopping, not bad beaches, stunning scenery around the Canal d'Amour area.
If you're feeling brave, it's possible to take a day cruise to Albania (or it was when we were there) which we really enjoyed. Lunch was served on the beach with a tremendous spread of local cold meats, bread, salad - so much of it, we were stuffed!
I was with my boyfriend (now my husband) and his friend and we rented a 2 bedroom apartment at the Zafiris complex. Excellent location and we used to end up in the Saxaphone Bar just a few hundred meters down the road from the apartments each night so not too far to stumble after a few beers.
It was actually the cheapest holiday for spending money that we had ever had.
Good luck!

Oh I enjoyed the Dominican republuc, the both times we were there. Look on the Caribbean forum and you'll find lots of tips and advice. Where are you staying?
Were staying in the Viva Wyndahm Tangerine Hotel in Caberete in Puerto Plata. I think it has alot of entertainment and things to do because were planning on stopping on the complex unless we go on any excursions.
hi becky, i went to cyprus with my boyfriend a few yrs ago (were 25 and 26) we also do not like the 18-30 scene, we went to protarus and i loved it. lovely beach, lots to do eg, plenty nice restraunts, bars with kareoke and music, bars with entertainment such as hipnotising (splelling!) shows etc and bars showing films for free on big screens and a friends bar! showing episodes of friends if ud not guessed lol (if thats your thing anyway) its a resort for familys and couples id say and is a good distance about a 15 min bus ride if i remember rightly) from the 18-30 ayia napa, so far away from night life (we went once at night and once in day) but close if you wanted to visit in the day. we also went to nissi beach whch is just pst ayia napa (went on the bus) for a day and that is brill but was rarther packed. good luck finding something!
oh, just seen youve booked, thatl teach me to read to the end of the thread! and i usually do, ah well. hope you have a brill time sounds great!
I see you booked the Dominican.
Sadly, longhaul All Inclusive never quite "did" it for us.... We were always of the opinion we weren't suited to it but took advantage of a very special offer from the tour op I worked for one March. We swapped a week AI in the Amigos chain of hotels in Benidorm (we paid an extra 50GBP per couple) with my sister-in-law, her hubby, their daughter and her boyfriend for a week in Jamaica.
They absolutely loved it and we couldn't wait for it to end!
We ended up taking a day tour mountain biking into the Blue Mountains simply to get away from the hemmed in feeling. The scenery was fabulous although almost 12hrs in the saddle was a bit hard going The only other great day we had was getting out to Dunn's River Falls and climbing up the water fall for a half day trip. It just wasn't possible to hop on a bus or just go for a walk out of the hotel. It was always a case of having to arrange a taxi each time and that's not quite the way we like to holiday.
Funnily enough, since moving to Cyprus on a permanent basis we've come across one other couple who have the same feelings about it as us. We each found it too tying, claustrophobic and there was nothing spontaneous about it - even a ride on the kayaks or the glass bottom boat that went out every hour had to be pre-booked....
Another lady I used to work with had the same opinion too on longhaul AI but then tried Antiqua and fell in love with it.
So as you can see, there definitely seems to be two camps. We know we won't do it again but I hope you have a great time.
Enjoy!
