OK so it was in 2008, but I was in Izmir and Kusadasi at the end of April. Day time sunny and warm - over 20 °C but definitely not warm enough to swim! Short sleeve weather in the daytime but definitely cardi if not jacket for the evenings.

Thankyou I think she will have to give Turkey a miss and visit next year.

I have been to Turkey for the first 2 weeks of May(Gumbet) for the last 2 years and the weather has been great.
Some days were so warm I had to sit in shade for a couple of hours.
I only wore a cardigan on a few evenings and the only rain we had was on our last evening in 2009.

I think they said they chose somewhere in Paphos, which i've heard is quite nice.

Can anyone tell me what the local supermarkets are like in Cyprus? They want to go self catering, to save on costs.

I cannot really give them any advice, as when i go self catering, i usually eat out everyday, and i have never been to Cyprus before.

They aren't fussy eaters, and will not be looking for the typical british products like heinz beans.

bit of a chicken and egg situation.. Lidl are in the process of opening a number of stores around the southern end of Cyprus, but as yet i have not read of one in the Pafos district, the Cypriot supermarkets have not had any real competition in the past
