I would like to write a travel journal during our holidays this year. If only because it will make it easier to write reviews and trip reports when we get home.
Any recommendations for a nice one? I've tried looking on Amazon and they are a bit uninspiring. I nearly bought the India Travel Journal... until I realised inside it has "personnel details" instead of "personal details"
This company has some nice journals http://www.ohsocherished.co.uk/search?xSearch=travel+book

No iPhone here, I'm a Blackberry girl!
got a nokia e3. could i do the same with that phone do you know, i can get a load of other apps and things on it , so would be nice if i could
I just used a good old fashioned notebook which I used to write in every day. I transferred it all to my travel blog on HT.tv when I got back
I am old fashioned too I am afraid..I tend to note everything in my Dive Log and if itis not dive related, just scribble it down on paper and store it with my Dive Log until I can put it in some sort of order when I get back.
I'm old fashioned too......buy a nice A5 sized notebook each holiday and do a daily diary in the front pages and make notes of things in the back pages....I've got a nice collection of them now dating back to my first holiday on my own in 1989
lovely thread ! I myself don't, but our daughter ( who is now 10 ) has done one for her last 3 holidays, jamaica, mexico and spain and put her photo's in, and I will encourage her to do so ( her decision to do this !) for as long as she wants, makes for so many gorgeous memories, as we all forget even the first day of our holidays, so to have it all down for a lok back in years is lovely. Our daughter has loved sharing these memories with her school mates as many of them have never been to these destinations, so its a great thing to do
My friend who's Australian used to do a journal. She'd write it like a diary then stick in bits 'n bobs ie restaurant menu, club tickets etc or even something personal she'd been given from people she'd met who she'd liked. Your daughter could add for eg a sweet paper if a new friend she met on holiday gave her a sweet that type of thing. Doesn't have to be anything of value.
Memory book
the night before we go,about packing, etc, then on day time we leave(we go by coach) so places we go to pick up,time etc, do this though to spain,
and write in it every day, what we ate, drank, who we met, etc, allways take a cheap note padto jot things in,then it fits in bag, pocket
when we get home transfer it,i get lovely journal books, from the works or some where like that.
you can get 2-3 holiday in one journal book.
often look back at a year to see what time this or where we met some one,
i love doing it, as you do forget things when theres alot going on.

My first time using it was on a trip to Malta and we also went to Sicily and this app plotted our route on Google maps and gave distances covered and routes taken as well as showing points of interest that we visited while there, also captures sounds / movies / pictures of your trip. worth buying an iPhone for alone
Mrs kiltie liked to upload it on a daily basis on to Facebook (or something) to let her friends see what we had been doing that day, I sent some pictures to emails as a postcard from various locations.
Worth buying an iPhone for alone
Just found the developers website for the My Vacation app I mentioned above, take a look at the screen shots and also the video link My first time using it was on a trip to Malta and we also went to Sicily and this app plotted our route on Google maps and gave distances covered and routes taken as well as showing points of interest that we visited while there, also captures sounds / movies / pictures of your trip. worth buying an iPhone for alone

Oh The Works is a good call Angelica. I'll have a look in there this week.
I've been keeping holiday journals since I was 12 when went on my first holiday 'abroad' on a school trip to Switzerland. My Dad gave me a specially designed 'holiday journal' which had spaces for photos to be added once you got back etc. I've still got it and the habit of keeping one! But I still stick with a good old-fashioned paper version even though I do now have a 'notepad' laptop. There's something so nice about choosing a new notebook for each holiday - usually an A5 size though a friend gave me a lovely smaller clothbound one with marbled end papers which I used for my big tour of Cuba in summer 2009. I came across it again just before Christmas when looking for something else and it was lovely to re-read it and be reminded of all that warmth and sunshine amidst the awful weather we were enduring up here in Scotland last month.
I don't keep a journal but I do collect bits and pieces to put in my scrapbooks - things like attractions tickets, postcards, leaflets etc as they are a nice reminder of what we've got up to.
maybe you're supposed to log all your pilots/bus drivers etc.!!"personnel details"
I wish I'd done what Glynis' friend did. Not just for recording the actual holiday but for looking things up later when people ask for ideas, like on here. When people ask for a restaurant it's not a lot of use saying you can picture it in your head (big building, green door...) but can't remember the name or address. I do keep finding random used tickets and leaflets in bags and in drawers that bring back memories - but sometimes not enough to remember how the hell I got there!
Our Canada blog is http://barbara-s.travellerspoint.com/ if anyone is interested in a holiday in Vancouver and The Rockies (it reads backwards)
Keeping a note of what we spend and what we spend it on is illuminating, especially when comparing prices from, say, ten years ago. I have one magical till receipt from a trip to Italy pre-euro. We managed to spend over a million lira, I still remember the thrill of counting out the huge wad of notes. [For younger readers, a million lira then was about £120.]
