Try and drive up to Gibralfaro Castle (as it's a long, steep, exhausting walk even in February), pay the couple of euros to walk around the castle walls, the panoramic views are stunning. Once in the city visit a tourist info office as they have a good selection of free maps with highlighted walking routes to suit all different interests.
