I love this website and it has helped me with my holiday location for the last few years!! So here I am again hoping to pick some expert brains
My husband and I are in our early 30's and are looking for an 'economical' 2 weeks holiday this year after our wedding last year. We have booked off 2 weeks in June in preperation and I am now in the 'scouring the internet' stage but don't seem to be geeting very far.
As I said we are on a pretty tight budget...we have done DIY in the past so are not adverse to this. Just open to opinions really.
Ok so to give you an idea, we have been to Icemeler and Olu Deniz in recent years. We're not overly fussy about the accomodation...we just like somewhere quiet and sedate. Not into loud music, pool parties etc etc just like somewhere quiet to chill and unwind. Don't mind if the accomodation is a walk out of the main centre, we tend to find this is the case with most of our accomodation.
Ideally somewhere with a beautiful beach (don't want shingle/pebble), traditional places to eat and drink - not keen on the whole irish bar/english pub scene. Don't need anywhere with 'entertainment' in the evenings...we just prefer to have a meal and maybe a few drinks before heading back to the apartment.
That's it really...like I say the cost is a huge factor. We managed to get accomodation for £9 pounds a night a couple of years ago..so anything to compete with that would be great
CeriEvan,
I would say Turunc because it fits all your requirements except the beach is sand/shingle, but everything else is perfect.
One benefit of private DIY accommodation is that you don't need to buy your drinks during the day from the bar, you can take your own drinks round the pool, and if you have your own bbq could have some evening meals in the garden of your accommodation, then just go out for a drink. That should save the pennies!
I have heard of accommodation as cheap as you got last year but the standard apparently was dire. If you do find any as cheap again I'd do a bit of research first if I were you, just to make sure its OK. I guess if you leave it to the last minute you're more likely to get a real bargain.
Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for!
There are lots of other beach resorts that would suit you but they have sand/shingle beaches rather than just sand.
Ortakent on the Bodrum Peninsula does have a good sandy beach too so you could have a look there, that is a smallish, quite traditional resort about 20 minutes from Bodrum. There are some nice restaurants but no lively bars or places with 'entertainment' You may be able to get some reasonably priced SC accomodation there.
patara is probably the best beach i have visited in turkey, but the nearest resort is kalkan which is a nice place but we found it overpriced, accomodation can be slightly more expensive here as are a lot of the bars etc and in my opinion it has a slightly pretentious atmosphere (doubtless kalkan addicts will strongly disagree with me on this).Dalyan as mentioned is lovely friendly and charming it is more of a small working turkish town and has managed to keep its atmosphere, the beach isnt central but easily reached by dolmus or water taxi and is large clean and spacious the beach bar that sells snacks (at the dolmus end)is pretty reasonable (ish). We stayed at the metin last year which was fine, there are other hotels in the area that are well positioned and good value try on the beach or travel republic, big bonus is transfer from dalaman is only 20/30 mins.
Dalyan has got something for everyone with lots of good restaurants and cheap accomodation. We stayed at the Minta Apartments which are located a 5-10 minute walk away from the centre/river so nice and quiet and relaxed. Cost us about £20 a night from memory.
I think we might have visited Patara beach on the way home from the mud baths and it was stunning...
