When we arrived at the Los Gigantes Hotel there was a letter advising guests what do it they went down with the Norovirus. It was very ominous at the outset. One of us went down with severe vomiting and diarrhoea after 36 hours and the other followed 24 hours later. We did not really recover until we returned home. There were a significant number of other guests suffering from the same symptoms.Even when we had partially recovered we were not allowed into the dining room and food went sent up to our room. When it arrived it was uncovered and by the time it reached us it barely tepid. When we reported it to the senior Thomson's representative there were 3 other people reporting the same thing at the same time. We also reported it to the hotel who admitted other guests were suffering with vomiting and diarrhoea, and in fact one lady had been taken to hospital. Our holiday was completely ruined and it was not cheap holiday and it like throwing money down the drain. We understand this hotel has a history of this illness/virus and in fact a group of holidaymakers successfully took Thomson's to court in the first half of 2010It was reported in the Daily telegraph so it was not exactly low profile. We wish we had known this before booking. So it is obvious that something is still wrong which is proved by the letter in our room. We heard they blame the resort and not the hotel but we heard of no one who was staying at the hotel going down with this "virus". Even if this was the case which we would strongly refute then the should have of informed us of the illness in the resort. Why do not Thomson's warn customers prior to travel and offer an alternative similar accommodation or more important cancellation with a full refund. It must be close to contravening the Health and Safety rules by sending customers to Los Gigantes hotel when it has been an outstanding problem over a period of time. We have written to Thomson's requesting compensation and are awaiting a reply. Has any one else had the same problem. If Thomson's do not come up with an acceptable where do we go from here.Any help or prior/ongoing experience regarding this hotel would be greatly appreciated. We would like also to warn anybody thinking of booking a holiday at this holiday of the presence of a virus. It might change your minds about going there.
