We have been the last 2 years during their bank holiday weekend which falls on 19th-20th March and on this weekend there are lots of Tunisians in the hotels.
Last year we stayed in the Abou Sofianne and it was a total nightmare but this year in the Riu Green Park the locals were lovely.
The following weekend there were quite a large number of locals and I think its because the numbers of Europeans travelling since the revolution are down so the hoteliers have to fill the rooms rather than leaving them vacant.
Where and when are you going?

i'm thinking of going end of may, taking my elderly mother with me, have been looking at yasmine hammamet and p.e.k , is there a prom either side of the marina in yasmine ?. been looking at the riu hotels and iberostar, but really confused. thanks

We stayed at PEK both times and loved it.
The Riu Green Park is a great hotel with good old fashioned service.There was literally nothing I could find fault with.
The port is only a short distance away about 10 minutes walk.
There was no promenade here and not sure about Hammamet but we are hoping to go there in October to one of the Riu hotels.

we travelled to sousse in december and yes a lot of tunisians were using our hotel (KATHARGO EL KSAR ) not only weekends but also most nights we encounterd no problems with them at all they were polite and friendly but not intrusive.We thouroghly enjoyed tunisia and would return without hesitation however if you like a full english,kareoke,bingo,sky sports home from home holiday its not for you.The locals that used our hotel at night were just having a an alcoholic drink in private really and were all younger couples/groups,frankly the groups of russians /eastern europeans staying at the hotel caused far more problems for both the guests and staff.
