Nothing guaranteed of course, but the Magasin General in PEK was due to re-open "shortly" when I was out there a few weeks ago. It really is a pain and I still miss Monoprix in Sousse, which has been closed for years. I will make a few enquiries from some of the ex-pats.

Thanks, all responses gratefully received - I love the nice wine you get in Tunisia, even took our own glasses at Christmas to enjoy the good stuff (pay a wee bit more for the good stuff which is excellent !) and wanted to maybe go to some of the vineyards at Cap Bon this year but we will wait and see what the travelling around possibilities are like. Only 4 weeks to go and counting down!!

sorry I can't help with this one either. I do also love the Tunisian wine, it is lovely.

I particularly like the Vieux Magon but my favourite tipple is Cedratine, the lemon-based liqueur they make out there. I've e-mailed a friend in Sousse who has been known to enjoy the occasional glass or three so hope to have an answer for you before you leave.

Thanks All, love the Clipea (chardonnay) and all the Shadrapa wines (Sicilian) and a few others too. Heard on another forum that the shop is def closed, so we might have to eke out the duty free for 2 weeks !! Aslemma - have never tried the cetradine, I well remember the reaction to the peach schnapps in Spain -, never again!

Hi Anne, I too heard elsewhere that MG in PEK was definitely closed and may never re-open due to all the staff going on strike. My fear has always been that the Tunisians would want everything at once now they have had their revolution and may do themselves irreparable damage.

Let joy be unconfined I've just got the news on Facebook that where Magasin General is in PEK, face the front door, turn right and walk straight and in a couple of minutes you will pass the back entrance of a hair salon and straight opposite there is a shop with stairs up to it! Just at the top of the stairs they have a little window and you shop for your wine and beer from there! Keep your eye out for the hairdressers on your left and it's directly opposite. What it is to have useful contacts.

Thanks Aslemma, I do know of the "hole in the wall" shop and I read on another forum that the guy there is now doing a roaring trade! So think that may be our only option - either that or else we sign the pledge and refrain Not! Anyway we will soon find out, less than 3 weeks now and counting the hours
