I think you will see quite a few changes. Bars, hotels and restaurants change hands (and names!)from season to season, although many of the "favourites" are still the same, such as the Florida, Venice, Majestic, 3 Bells and so on. For this season, the promenade along the beachfront has been widened, with a lane set aside for bikes, scooters and so on.
Personally, I think the resort still has a charm all of its own and certainly has lost none of its appeal for me and my family.
If there are any particular places you want to know about, just ask and I'll try and answer.

Icmeler has changed quite a bit since you were last there, mostly for the better. Some bars have been knocked down some are now empty and many new places ahve spung up as well. Still plenty to see and do and plenty of good restaurants and bars

There is a new part down at the front, where the boats moor, not sure I would call it a marina. Last year plenty of shop type building s had been built but were unoccupied as they have been for a couple of years.

The market stalls by the canal have been moved for this year I think they are going to be relocated up near the post office

Near to where the Icmeler Online office is there isa better square with some lovely small fountains that are lit at night

The hassle is almost non existant compared to 6 years ago and the music in the bars is switched off at midnight

As with all places prices ahve gone up but bargains are to be had whether it be with jewellry, clothes or restaurants. I personally find that some shopkeepers are not prepared to haggle as much as they used to

This year will be the first year for a few years that I am not going to Icmeler.
The stalls down by the canal have been moved as previously stated and I cant see how its for the better as this was a favourite place for many people on an evening.
The beach front cafes Coco Beach,Erdem and what was Cafe Anne now has the tables on decking which to me is not an improvement.
I nearly fell off last year when my chair got to near the edge.
The widening of the beach path which was only improved in 2007 will now be used by mopeds along with mobility scooters and I cant see the moped drivers staying in the lane if there is a mobility scooter in front of them and pedestrians will have to dodge them.
If I return I will stay in the village as I for one dont think the main part of the resort has improved at all.

Just shows that different people look at different things in different ways. Personally, I like the decking at the beachfront cafes and thought it was an improvement. I'm not too happy about the stalls being moved from the canal, but I'm willing to wait and see for myself how it affects the area. I still can't see it changing how I feel about the place or its people though.

I forgot about the decking on the cafe fronts. I agree with Jay Trip that the decking was very uneven and I think it was a little dangerous and I watched a few older people struggle walking on the uneven surfaces.

It will be interesting to see how the prom is affected with the new lane for cycles and mopeds etc, think this could also be a little dangerous however we will ahve to wait and see

Overall though the changes have been positive

Thanks for all your replies. I used to go in the Chill bar quite a lot but I suspect that is not there now. The Travellers Rest near the top road used to serve nice meals - is it the same ? The only place I have ever had fish & chips abroad was at Eileens near the Tansas supermarket and they were the best !! Is it still there ?

Thanks

The Chill bar is now the Sizzlers restaurant, which is owned by the lads who had the Famous Kitchen a few years ago.
Travellers rest is still there but seems quiet now compared to a couple of years ago.
I dont think Eileens is still there but Friar Tucks is relocating near there.
There are many great restaurants in the resort and if you look on Icmeleronline , there are many recommendations.
Members also get discounted drinks at the Sizzlers restaurant. :tup

Eileens was knocked down last year. The decking looked nice when we went in June last year, but when we went back in September it was very uneven and dangerous to walk on by then.Walked past the Travellers Rest most nights last september and was very busy, owned by a lady called Christine I think,we had a meal in there one evening and it was very good. :)

The only change for the worse is the stalls on the canal being moved it is an absolute disgrace.the promenade is different but still lovely and the train has gone as has lovely jubbly apple pie man .There has been a he'll of a lot of building work going on in the old village and there are a lot of empty new properties about, the Marina is a bit of a White elephant also as although it looks pretty all the shop units are vacant due to High rents. The food is still wonderful and chicken/pizza /pasta set menus are reasonable soft drinks in some bars are extortionate and effes is around 5/7 in most places.Stella is still there with some new acts and is very entertaining.Local gossip predicts that if you visit in June the exchange rate will be fantastic due to the general election which is around the 10th( I think )but bear in mind some locals also believe that eating the tops of tomatoes gives you the trots.Michael Jackson hasn't arrived yet (thank god) but by and large the entertainment remains the same a nice addition though is some bars seem to do more of the traditional Kurdish dances.Anything else you want to know please ask we came back Monday and it was very busy for the time of year compared to previous years

Please tell me cha cha slide is no longer heard in the bars :yikes . I had enough of that to last a lifetime in the last few years I visited Marmaris/Icmeler. Tarkan's kiss kiss was another serial offender !! ( although I did quite like that !)

Sorry Bee Gee, Cha Cha slide Kiss Kiss and other cheeeeesy tunes will still be there, almost certainly Icmeler seems to be stuck in a time warp with the music and entertainment. You almost certainly will still see Michael Jackson Tina Turner acts as well which are equally as dire

I wonder if that is why a lot of us keep returning to Icmeler, we just love her as she is.
You can still hear Deeper in the Night and watch the waiters dancing, only 3 more days and I will be back.

i heard that a group was formed on face book or something that called itself icmeler only has one cd, :rofl dont know if it still or ever did actually exist

Luck you if Michael Jackson's not there. I must say though that flipping robot is the one that drives me batty. That coupled with the fact that my daughter was terrified of it last year... It was not the robot, but more that loud thumping music when it came on... it does sound scary though...

Cheese cheese and oh more cheese, but we still keep going back! :cheers
