Flew from Birmingham 2 weeks ago. Just to advise that Monarch have a hand luggage check going on at the point of entry to the plane. Anyone's bag not fitting into their measuring thingy has to pay £50.
No mention of any such assessment at check-in, and the whole process held the flight up by half an hour as people tried to re-shuffle their hand luggage.
Note they also advise that you can also carry on "1 bag of duty free", so again be careful if you buy excessively from departure lounge.
Admittedly some people do take the mickey these days (ironic that "hand luggage" needs to be dragged to and from the plane on wheels), but something you may want to bear in mind.

We travelled with Monarch from Birmingham on 1st May and our hand luggage was not checked on entering the plane. Yes we were asked to put on scale when checking in luggage, but not again.
That's interesting - so they did for our flight but not others? It was at the departure gate. There was a metal "frame" thing which we had to fit our hand luggage into. If it didn't go in, they were going to charge £50. We flew around 2pm - when was your flight?
We flew out just over a week before lena - out on 22nd April BHX-LCA and they didn't measure any of the handluggage on our flight either.
Looks like they just had it in for us then! Either that or the pilot was racked off with the delay it caused.
