This isn't anything out of the ordinary. Charter flights do sometimes operate via other airports to pick up and drop off passengers onroute. It's a case of the company that has chartered the aircraft needs to fill the flight. I wouldn't be surprised if this was planned all along, it just wasn't mentioned at the time of booking.
