Yes you can, it's done all the time in the area I live as a package is often cheaper to buy than flight only.
The only thing you should do is inform the rep on arrival that you won't be using the allocated accommodation & they may want to know where you will stay. They won't have a problem with that, just be pleased you've told them, the reason being that you have booked a package so they do need to be aware of your absence from the booked hotel. This became a problem here the year we had lots of fires, the rep went to check on everyone, update & inform them as they are supposed to do. She panicked when she couldn't find one family, turned out they had never intended using the accommodation, but neglected to tell her.
If the hotel you have found is near to the one you originally booked you may still be able to use the transfer, but only as far as the original accommodation.

Thanks thats good to know hopefully I can persuade hubby to book the hotel I stayed in last year
And would of course inform the rep on arrival but with a rather red face as I would be embarrased

i know of a few people who do this, they buy a last minute deal but sort out their own accomodation they always let the eps know tho, they dont really care wether you use it or not, after all they have had your money anyway

Thanks, and like you say there not bothered as they have had your money, just would feel a little red faced when I tell them I wont be using hotel, well thats if we definatley change
