I sincerly hope this problem is brought to the attention of Thomson UK's chief executive

First you must ensure you complete an "In Resort" Complaint Form. Second I would email a complaint to Thomson customer service from resort and advise them you will be taking action on your return to the UK. Basically establish an audit trail. I would suggest you take some photos also. As they have said they will not move you unless you pay extra then, and it your decision, you could pay and include the extra expenditure in your claim on return.

When you return then post on here and our members will try to assist you in your claim..

Latest info I have seen

"The constructions have an estimate to be finished for Sept 15th. The works at this very moment are: 1 - a new state of the art Miniclub being built in the rear of GP Punta Cana reception. 2 - Arrecife Restaurant (La Catedral, main restaurant, opens for lunch and the other 2 beach buffets as well) 3- also 8 villas in GP Bavaro are being renewed. New decoration, colors of the bed spread & curtains, memory foam mattresses, etc. Also the two Deluxe rooms per villa are being enlarged which will turn them into Junior Suites. "

The building works have been discussed on other forums, and people who have just returned said it didn't really impact on them and hadn't spoilt their holiday. Some took it as the norm, as renovation work is always done during the low season, which is now.
It's a big resort, and as it is low season, can't you move rooms?

Oh dear they should have informed you!

Here are the pointers you should follow if you wish to persue this matter on return from your holiday.

If you find yourself on a holiday which is being marred by building works then collect your evidence.

1) Report the matter to your rep and fill in a complaints form. Keeping a copy for yourself.

2) Take photographic evidence (using a separate roll of film - not one containing happy holiday snaps)

3) Take camcorder evidence - especially if noise is a problem.

4) Collect names and addresses of other holidaymakers who are complaining.

You MUST inform your rep, you have to prove that you gave them the opportunity to put the matter right in resort. If they say they don't have a complaints form then write out your complaints yourself (Keep it short and to the point). Get the rep to sign your report and keep a signed copy for yourself also.

We have been moved from Bavaro section and i wish to point out the following

1.Poor show from the tour operator who have given NO help from the UK
2. The management at the hotel have been very understanding and have moved us in to the Royal Suites Turquesa at no expense so full marks to them.
3.The tour operator concerned has lost a 2/3 overseas holiday a year customer taking in cruises etc.We won't be using them again and was in the process of booking a xmas 26th Dec departure from the Canaries.
4.According to our information the tour operator was informed by the hotel of works on 26th May 2010 by the hotel.

And it goes without saying (or it did):

5. Thanks to fwh, Sunaddict and Glynis for taking the time to reply with some important info and advice.

I am sure they will be pleased to read that you have been provided with alternative accommodation. Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Cholera or an upset stomach? Have you had tests done to verify it's cholera?

As of 20th July 2011, the FCO advice to travellers was that whilst there had been reported cases of Cholera in two of the cities in DR, the risks to travellers remained low and there were no reported cases in any of the tourist resorts. So as Sunaddict suggests, I do hope that this is a case of an upset stomach rather than Cholera.

If it is a confirmed case of Cholera, I'm surprised that the resort is still open because the commonest source of infection is sewage containing faeces from infected people getting into the drinking water supply. If that is the case it would be the sign of a very serious failure in the resort infrastructure and raises very serious questions about the water supply and the drinking water provided for guests.

I having checked the resort info in PC, but Palladium RM has it's own water treatment and bottling system so I am surprised to read about someone contracting cholera. Also nothing on the palladium addicts forum.

Ignore the post above, as I have just checked and you must drink bottled water, as the main water comes from
a well and could make you sick if ingested.

Sorry but something is not right with this claim of Cholera.
It is a notifiable disease in the UK.
The OP will not be allowed to travel if they have Cholera.
If they suspect that they have it then they should seek immediate medical assistance.

No mention of cholera over on TA and I'm SURE there would be if there was a Cholera outbreak.
A slight exageration me thinks!

ok update on illness.severe gastro enteritus resulting in hospitalisation.

Gastroenteritis can be very debilitating and I wish you a speedy recovery but did a clinician actually suggest to you that you had Cholera before testing a stool sample then? If they did then that was incredibly irresponsible of them because of the consequences of such a diagnosis. Not just for the hotel and other guests but for yourself too because you should have been barrier nursed if that was the case and and not just hospitalised for re-hydration treatment. Also, it is highly unlikely that any airline would have flown you home as an ordinary passenger until the quarantine term was up.

Equally I hope that this wasn't a case of an over exagerated self-diagnosis either because the hotel and/or TO might consider an allegation that a guest had caught Cholera whilst staying wth them to be so damaging to their reputation that it warranted legal action.

Seems to me to be a tad irresponsible to post on a holiday forum that you have cholera without it first being diagnosed, especially when you haven't got it.
Together with having not read anyone else complaining about the building works (infact the one's that mention it say how quiet it was, and if you hadn't looked you woudn't have know it was happening!), makes me think you are perhaps given to slight over exaggeration!
Just my opinion.
