Hi and welcome to the forum!

Self catering accomodation is quite reasonable in Gumbet and there are a lot of good apartments. Food and drink can be very cheap if you eat at the local Turkish restaurants and you will get very good food there. Things are more expensive at the obvious tourist traps though so if you are on a tight budget check out prices before you eat.

It is very easy to get about by public transport, there are dolmus buses, small minibuses, which go from Gumbet to Bodrum every 5 or 10 minutes throughout the day and night. From Bodrum you can get a dolmus to anywhere you like on the Bodrum Peninsula.

If there is anything else you want toknow please just ask as I lived in Gumbet for a few years so I know it very well.

Hi juliehall and welcome to the forum!

I have stayed at Siesta Beach and they are nice apartments. There do seem to be a lot of complaints about noise but when we stayed we were at the back of the complex and there was no noise problem there, you could hear background noise but nothing that would keep you awake.

Maybe if you email the hotel and ask them for a quiet room at the top it would be better.

Apart from that they are very nice, the apartments are a lot nicer than the studios, which are a little dark.

Hi Disburg, I can only confirm what Kedi has said. There's a good range of budget accommodation available in Gumbet. To save on costs, you can buy in food for breakfast and lunch - a gorgeous crusty loaf costs just 75 kurus (30p) and if you go to the Sunday market in Gumbet, you can get fresh fruit and veg very cheaply (the tomatoes are to die for). Also there's a couple of cheaper supermarkets on the outskirts of Gumbet (Sok or Dia SA) where you can get the basics.

As for eating out, you can do this for very little money. My local bar (Cheers) does two set menus - a chicken one where you get soup, any chicken dish on the menu, fresh fruit and a soft drink for 20 lira (£8) or a fish one (the same but with a fish main course) for 25 lira (£10). There's a great fish and chip shop (Sue's but not Sue's Place restaurant) where you can get a massive portion of fish and chips (and I mean massive) for just 10 lira (£4).

As for drink, a large beer (Efes) averages 5-6 lira (£2 to £2.40), a local spirit and mixer averages 7-8 lira (£2.80 to £3.20) for large measures. Bar Street prices are more expensive though.

I live in Gumbet for six months of every year so if you need any more help, just ask.

juliehall,Ive stayed there and the music and blowing of whistles was for us horrendous, until 5 or 6 in the morning, hope you havnt booked a studio, thats another story !,as advised ask for a room at the rear of the compex at the back, closer to the top bar.Location is good, dolmuses pick up outside, and a short walk along the seafront from the apartments will bring you to the centre. We ate a few times at the Minstrel just along that walk, they did set menus with wine and the food was very good.Cheers restaurant was also another favourite of ours in the centre.

They were pretty good when we requested a quiet room so you should be fine. But do email them to be on th safe side.

Chicken meals in the main Gumbet restaurants are averaging 18-20tl & beef/steak meals 25tl. The best meal/service i've had for the past 2 years has been Annalivias, just to the right at the top of Bar Street, couldn't fault it.......
