You pays your money you takes your choices!

I'd normally agree with this but in a lot of cases, people 'paid their money' but didn't actually choose to fly with Tor Air.

People who booked with Olympic Holidays well in advance of the 2011 season thought they'd be travelling on Monarch flights as that was what the Olympic website said and had been the cse for a numer of years.

However, as most of us are aware) Olympic are no longer using Monarch as their main carrier, so clients were being advised of airline changes and changes in departure times with little choice than to accept the change to Tor Air.

I think you'll find the one with the 30 something hour delay was all flight only passengers. Not a tour operator operated flight......

So yes, passengers would have known who they were flying with.

Maybe so, but I was replying to MikeBravo's earlier post (below) which mentioned 4 different delays

LGW - 36hr delayed Rhodes boarding at present
12 hr late Kalamata yesterday, 16 hr late Kos, 24 hr late inbound Kos.

and bagand96 who mentioned choice - which not everybody who has flown or is due to fly with Tor Air has had.

Or are all the flight delays mentioned above 'flight only'?

12 hr late Kalamata yesterday

That flight is the one used by Mark Warner holidays for the majority of the seats.

I THINK MOST PASSENGERS WITH OLYMPIC HOLIDAYS BOOK ONLINE A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE FLYING AND SO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE FLYING WITH TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CHEAP DEALS.I HAD A WEEK IN KOS FOR LESS THAN £150 COMPARED TO BROCHURE PRICE OF £400,WHO PAYS FULL PRICE.WE DID SUFFER 30 HR DELAY TOR AIR 17/7/11 BUT COULD NOT FAULT OLYMPIC WHO PUT US INTO 5STAR MARK WARNER RESORT (we had a suite) ALL MEALS INCLUDED IT MUST HAVE COST MORE THAN MY HOLIDAY,WE TREATED IT AS AN EXTRA DAYS LUXURY HOLIDAY.AS I SAID IN MY FIRST POST YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Exactly, so you were well looked after.

These forums are pointless anyway. Everyone just comes on here to slate airlines and tour operators.

I for one will sit back and laugh when people realise the only reason your getting a cheap holiday is because your using small charter airlines. Good luck for next year. Monarch are not operating a charter program. So I say bring on more small airlines, don't let TUI / Thomas Cook have the monopoly

I think you may be confusing us with another site. Holidaytruths members provide feedback on their experiences of hotels, airlines, tour operators, etc whether good or bad.

Why not have a browse of the forums and let us have some feedback on your own positive holiday experiences.

I booked with Olympic earlier this year and knew I was flying Tor Air.
I did pay my money and took my choice and luckily, our flights were pretty much on time.

However, I've read lots of complaints on the Tripadvisor Greece forum from people who've booked well in advance with Olympic, expecting to fly with Monarch but have been moved to Tor Air, Strategic, Fly Hellas etc.

I sympathise with them.

From some reports I've read, not everyone was 'well looked after' during long delays with Tor Air.

Like David, I disagree that this forum is 'pointless'.

I've been a long time posters on a number of different boards on HT, depending where I was planning a holiday to, what questions I wanted an answer to etc.

I've also done accommodation & resort reviews and always tried to be objective rather than subjective.

Lots of people have helped me, not least Dazbo & partyboy_uk on the Monarch forum.
I had a 12 hour delay coming back from Rhodes last year (Monarch) and didn't 'slate' them.
I asked a number of questions which partyboy_uk (who is cabin crew, I believe) answered to my satisfaction.

Are you sure Monarch are not operating a charter program?
I thouht their scheduled flights were ZB prefix and charters were MON.
I'm flying to Goa (booked with Jewel-in-the-Crown) with Monarch on MON2490.
I assure you that is a charter flight.

Very true, and point taken. Has always been a big risk for Olympic using the unknown carriers this summer. Their operator at BHX (Skywings) made the press for all the wrong reasons in their first week of ops! Although to be fair, they appear to have stabalised a bit now. Still believe Olympic were playing with fire though, although it may have been their only choice; talks with Monarch broke down, quite publicly, and without Monarch, they had to find someone, with quite little notice.

Monarch will still be operating some charters, as you have said Jewel in the Crown being one of their customers. However their charter operation is massively reduced compared to what it has been. Main reason for this - no customers. The "big two" have got their own in house airlines that cover nearly all their flying, Monarch pick up a bit but not much. Olympic were their last big customer, and as we know they don't work together anymore. The only other one is Cosmos/Avro who are part of the same group as Monarch. However neither are "major" players, and they will take seats on ZB Scheduled services as required. Its not a sudden thing though, they have been growing their scheduled operation for many years, its more of a scheduled/charter hybrid.

Basically, do not travel with Tor Air. Do not let the cheap flights attract you. I can honestly say its worth paying the extra money for a more expensive ticket to go with a better airline and receive better service.

Their delays are beyond barbaric and they happen quite often, almost every week. I haven't flown with Tor Air but I have experienced a lot of delays working at the airport. Their delays increase and increase but they do not actually cancel their flights. I have seen at least three flights being delayed for more than 14 hours going into the next day. Passengers are having to sleep in the airport departure lounge and only getting treated to a £6 refreshment voucher. Some of the Tor Air representatives are very rude, their attitude is so awful and have no respect for what passengers go through. On the 27th August, a flight was due to go to Kos at 0545 but actually left the airport the next day in the early hours! Some passengers were transferred to Thomson (which also was delayed) and the later Tor Air flight to Kos.

I felt so sorry, especially for those passengers who were looking for a relaxing and fun holiday with their kids during the bank holiday weekend. I do not recommend travelling with them. Some of their flights do go on time, but thats a risk you have to take.

I understand from your post that you work at an airport, which airport is that?

From your experience, you mention regular delays ("almost every week").

From your experience, can you tell us (from the start of the season) how many flights (either from the airport you work at or both the airports that Tor Air fly from) have been delayed by say:
less than 4 hours
between 4 and 12 hours
over 12 hours

So I can then put these delays into persepective, can you then tell me how many flights Tor Air operate from UK airports each week.

I'm happy to listen to and consider your advice and recommendation not to travel with Tor Air (although i have already had one good return flight with them this year documented on this thread) and I have read other passengers personal reports (mainly on TA and in fairness both positive and negative) but as you are posting from a different perspective, I'd like you to back it up with facts and figures.

Maybe there are complaints about this delay but as this is the Tor Air thread and the flight you mention is Monarch, I'd expect to see any complaints/comments regarding the delay on the Monarch board.

Does it matter if I posted the same comment on another site? All I wanted was to get the message across on different websites and copying and pasting seemed like a good idea.

No, I have never flown with Tor Air, but this is my experience from working at the airport, checking in and boarding the Tor Air flights. If your flight has never been delayed, then that's fine I have no right to comment about that but this is only from my experience from being on the ground. As far as I know they operate at least two flights a day during the week and around two to three on the weekends.

Last week there was a flight to Kos that was due to depart 0545 and it was delayed all day. I finished work at 1600, came back to work at 0300 the next day and the passengers were still at the airport and the flight was still delayed. Another flight with Tor Air to Rhodes is delayed today until later tonight that was due to go this afternoon and no vouchers were given out.
Their delayed are mostly due to missing their slots and technical problems (which coincidentally happen every week)

Missing slots haha No clue what so ever.

My parents fly Tor Air to Portugal. I was a bit concerned after reading some of the feedback here. However, they had great flights there and back. Food was good ( as good as it can be anyway) and the seats were comfortable. They said they thought there was actually more legroom than they had anticipated. Both flights were on time. :)

OK, so you have experience of checking in and boarding Tor Air flights, 'as far as you know' they operate 2 flights per day plus 2-3 at the weekends.

So do you have statistics on the delays you're talking about ("almost every week")?
