alsbaby,

Turkey is normally regarded as Europe for insurance purposes, but always check with your insurer. More information is on our TRAVEL INSURANCE: Advice, Recommendations and Q&As topic.

I stated the reason why before locking it. We have a dedicated active insurance topic on the General Enquiries Forum (link provided). It's to avoid duplication of parallel topics and for the benefit of other memders to discuss things in one places rather than have several repeated threads over several forums.

It seems to vary from one insurance provider to another, nuttynet - some still class it as being Europe, while others seems to insist it is included in worldwide policies. Best advice is just to shop around.

agree with Blondiescot, seem to vary.
also varies with some credit cards etc as to wether cash withdrawals are Euro or not

Many insurance companies have recently reclassified Egypt and Tunisia to worldwide instead of Europe. If you have a current annual policy taken out before the change then it should still be valid. However you should check any policies taken out since the troubles in both countries earlier this year to ensure you are covered.

Members should check their own individual policies rather than relying on information which may no longer be correct.

Many insurers classed any country which borders the Mediterranean as Europe for the purposes of travel insurance. Some companies have reclassified them as worldwide recently.

Turkey is mostly in Asia, but has been classed as Europe for insurance purposes.

For many years now I have had an annual European policy.
I have travelled to Turkey,Tunisia and Egypt many times as they along with many other companies classed these as Europe as they have land bordering the Mediterranean.
This June when my policy was due to be renewed I was informed they no longer included Egypt and Tunisia.
This is probably due to the recent troubles there.
They still include Turkey despite 97% being in Asia.
Sharm-el-Sheikh is in Asia but they still used to include it on the European policy.
I am now looking for a company that will include these 3 countries on a European policy as i dont want to have to pay a fortune for a Worldwide annual policy. :que
