I normally get eaten alive!!! This year I took Vit B & Garlic Capsules for 2 weeks before I went.
Covered myself in Avon SSS every night before I went out (used it as after sun), plus used Jungle Formula spray and dabbed citronella oil on my pulse points. I wasn't taking any chances! I also had a plug ins in the bedroom and living area.
I noticed that they local council or whatever in Armutalan were out spraying the streets. I didn't see anyone at Antique Palace with bites but did meet plenty of others on day trips etc who were covered. I am absolutely terrified of the blighters as they usually see me coming, I obviously managed to confuse them this year!
It must be Scottish blood because i get bitten to bits every year. I spoke to our practice nurse she said there is no cure, but to buy a spray with as high a deet content as you can get, check material of clothes and if okay spray round the hems. Also to buy a normal fly spray and keep just inside your door, when you open the door spray room then close for a few seconds this should get rid of any that are in your room. Hopfully that will work as when we were in Egypt i got a few nasty ones mind you i get bit badly at home as well. So i have bought repel 100 it has 95% deet so we will see.
I'm also Scottish and a mozzie magnet! I get bitten to death and the bites always get infected and I end up on antibiotics. This year, I took antihistamines for two weeks before going as well as while I was in Icmeler, as well as Vit B tablets and garlic capsules - and covered myself in Avon SSS religiously. Well, it worked, as I only got one bite, which stayed very small and disappeared really quickly.
We returned last week from holiday and like others think the mossies are particularly fierce this year. Was in BM Bargains, a kind of poundland shop locally and spotted X-el anti mosquito roll-on's and wipes containing 20% DEET for 95p each.
Anyone who wants to enjoy a cold beer during the heatwave might want to spray on insect repellent first, after a study found it makes you more attractive to mosquitoes.
The insects are 15 per cent more likely to fly towards humans after they have consumed a pint or two, according to a study.
Please watch the strength of the deet, the deet goes into your bloodstream &
can be very harmful.
I should use a lower strength or use sparingly.
I agree re the strength of DEET. I've seen 50% take the surface from a plastic table. Think what it's doing to your skin and organs. Use lower strength than 95% please.
does anyone know if there is a problem with mosquito``s in kusadasi as never been here before as was wondering if i needed to take any insect spray or cream.
Hi you definitely need protection in Kushadasi if your arriving at night time have your spray handy ready for when you arrive especially if your flying into Bodrum as the transfers usually stop enroute beside Lake Bafa and the mossies are rife there.
im flying in icimer airport so not sure about that one?
I think you mean Izmir airport. If you are arriving during the day no problem but if a night flight I would either spray before your flight or have some repellent handy when you land ( you can get the wipes an carry a couple in your hand luggage )
Hi I have just returen from Gumbet and for the first time ever i was not bitten. I did use repel 100 which has 95% Deet, but i did run it by my practise nurse before buying. But i also used Lemen shower gel and lemon Body lotion. It was great not to get bitten or have to go to the doctors.
: doctor told me to try yeast tablets before you go they dont like them in your blood
we are going to icmeler in october flying from dalaman airport
I took vitamin B tablets which are supposed to have a similar effect, as well as garlic capsules and antihistamines - and I only got one very small bite this June (in Icmeler). One tip I would give is to take some insect repellent in your hand luggage and use it before you leave the plane at Dalaman, because I have been bitten at the airport on previous occasions.
My question's...
1) The vitamin B6, do I still take whilst I am there or just for 2 weeks before I go?
2) Can I carry on board an Avon SSS??? Unsure about this as it's a liquid, so think it's a no no, but just wanted it confirming. If not I may arm myself with some more mozi wipes and wipe down once arriving.
I was bitten soooo bad last year, just want to do all I can to fight these critters off.
Thank's guy's... Happy Hol's...

If it's a liquid more than 100ml in capacity, then no, you can't take it onboard the aircraft in hand luggage. You'll need to take it in your suitcase.
I can't say I've ever been bothered by mozzies in Turkey but given the things you're taking, they shouldn't come within a mile of you!

Just getting ready to leave after a week in the Calis-Beach / Fethiye area. Not ONE mozzie bite - and I'm usually bitten alive ! Not seen many people bitten either. I believe the local authorities spray the area from cars during the night......seems to work as hardly any flies either - just hope it doesn't get into the beer !!
Hopefully I will not suffer like I did last year, awch, me legs were in shreads and all puffy and swollen with one bite, very painful to even walk on. Was ok after I got some water tablets though, but know you can't get these over counter here so prob not best to take them long term!

Ruth, I took in my hand luggage a small roll-on insect repellent (I got mine from Superdrug), which I used before I got off the plane at Dalaman. I've been bitten at the airport in the past, but that seemed to work for me this time. It was a small travel-sized one which was ideal for popping into your handbag - or you could indeed use the wipes.
