Travelled with thomsons to cala bona in September, they ask you to leave a review but if it DOES NOT show them in a good light then they will not publish it, what is the point of this. I stated that the Hotel Alicia does not warrant being a platinum hotel next year,ie no beach in front of hotel, rooms need refurbishing, entertainment not up to Alicia standards.
Obviously a review like this wont do them a lot of good, but WHY ask people to leave reviews, if you are only going to publish the nice ones.
Macdonald.
Was it on the Thomson site macdonald?
Tried to put a review on thomsons and failed so put it on trip advisor and holidays uncovered.
Could you copy and paste it on here too Macdonald? We appreciate truthful reviews on this site, even if the hotel isn't shown in a good light.
Don't think you'd be able to copy and paste it now as it's been submitted. I normally write a review here and before submitting it I copy it so it can be pasted elsewhere. If you get a spare 5 mins I'm sure HT members would appreciate if you could put a review in our hotel review section. If the hotel's not listed our mod team will add it for you.
Btw, I had an e-mail from Thomas Cook on 1st Sept asking me to review the hotel I'd recently been to. I did this immediately but it still isn't showing on the site, despite it being a glowing report. I did post a review here first
Have posted a review on Hotels review page.
that's great macdonald, thanks Which country is the hotel Alicia in as I'm going to have a read? just curious as to what you thought about the hotel.
Cala Bona Majorca
I don't think it will be on the board yet Shirley, as it'll have to be approved.

Yes I thought of that Helen but I looked at the majorca review section before asking as I thought Cala Bona was in Majorca but I don't think the hotel's been added to the section yet which would not make it possible for Macdonald to have already weitten a review. so I thought i might have been mistaken with the country. could have been ibiza or menorca.
macdonald, did you have to ask one of the mods to add the hotel for you or did you find it listed somewhere
The review is here, it's listed under Protur Alicia:
Just found it and read it macdonald. Nice to see an up to date review on the hotel as I noticed the last one was posted in 2008.
Many thanks for your review
Yes thanks for the review. All reviews are greatly appreciated.
I've read it too - the more up to date reviews we get, the better
as a general comment, i would like to start seeing more reviews on holiday truths and , well...anywhere aside from trip advisor, i am a little fed up with there reviews to be honest, there doesnt seem to be much positivity at all, some of the best hotels in world get a right panning on t.a, it kind of puts a negative spin on what should be a great exciting time, picking a holiday out and booking it...just my opinion, i used to love reading the holiday truths review section, it seems to have quietened down alot
I do it in MS Word before I post, if you do it on here first, it won't let you copy it once it's been posted.
I always try to be objective (rather than subjective) in my reviews and try to remember that if I'm staying in 2* self-catering accommodation in Greece, I shouldn't realistically expect to have 600 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and room service.
I also don't 'trash' accommodation in a review if I don't like the resort.
You need to separate the 2 - and many people don't seem to be able to do this.
For example, we were looking at a hotel in Goa and it had mainly 8/10 or 9/10 except for one guy who'd given it 2/10.
On reading his report, all he said about the hotel was that it was clean, kept clean and the staff were friendly.
THEN, he went on a massive rant about everything he hated about Goa.
The beach-sellers, the beggars, the airport, the taxi drivers, the red dust, the food - he clearly hated the place - none of which had anything to do with the hotel and was of course outside their control.
You need to read all of the review and decide if somebody is marking a place down for unrealistic expectations (e,g, they didn't have any chips one lunchtime).
You also (especially on TA) need to determine if the review has been posted by the hotel itself (if good) or by a competitor (if bad).
I appreciate that HT are much more vigilant in vetting reviews and moderating the boards than TA.
Obviously a review like this wont do them a lot of good, but WHY ask people to leave reviews, if you are only going to publish the nice ones.
Just like any company they are free to decide what they wish to publish. Any review is subjective - what one person considers good another may hold the opposite point of view. We have just come back from Cyprus staying at what we consider a great hotel yet I know on some sites people have posted saying it is poor. For that reason we never ever suggest to people they should go there. We each have our own point of view.
I stayed at a Platinum hotel earlier this year and did not think it was anything special. But then each to his own. Slagging them off on other sites because they would not publish your review only gets rid of your frustration.

p.s. Have you left a review here
then it was asked
Could you copy and paste it on here too Macdonald
quickly followed by
Yes, why haven't you posted it in here Macdonald
Macdonald replied
Have posted a review on Hotels review page.
so we asked more
Which country is the hotel
Macdonald replied
Cala Bona Majorca
So then we asked
did you have to ask one of the mods to add the hotel for you or did you find it listed somewhere
Sorry but it does seem a little as though we are shining a torch in a new members eyes
A) The review got published somewhere (unlike other websites we are totally independent and will publish all genuine reviews good or bad).
B) The other questions were asked to make sure that the review was published in the correct location and once published it could then be found by others (you have to know country, resort, hotel name) so as to offer help and advice and give an opinion.
