Guyarmina Princess hotel in Playa Torviscas is right on the beach. 4*, though not sure if they do AI

However, if not, the food is good and plentiful (and not too dear) nearby

Where do you start with what to do?

Well.... there's beach after beach of golden sands, lovely promenade walk from Los Cristianos through Las Americas/Costa Adeje to La Caleta, which is a lovely little fishing village. Whales and dolphins boat trips from both Los Cris and the harbour at Puerto Colon in Las Americas. Trips up Mount Teide, the highest mountain in Spain with spectacular views. Aqualand water park for the youngsters. Jungle Park just outside Los Cris with free flying eagles etc. Day trip to La Gomera from Los Cris harbour. Every water sport you can think of. A must for everyone is Siam Park in Las Americas, the biggest water park in Europe with every ride you could imagine, artificial beach and huge wave machine (check it out on Youtube)
Not to mention classy shopping areas around the Safari centre and Del Duque area, plus the nice old town of Los Cristianos itself, along with bars, cafes, restaurants of all nationalities everywhere.
You won't be bored.
First of all I suggest you download a map of the Los Cris/Las Americas/Costa Adeje area (they all run into each other) so you can get an idea of your bearings and location of hotels.

thanks for you reply, was looking at the hotel best tenerife but unsure of the location

Think that used to be called Tenerife Princess? If so you will probably find reviews under the old name. That area is the Los Cris/Las Americas border, also close by are the hotels Vulcano & Bitacora which both get excellent reviews.(They are part of the Spring Hoteles group)
From that area you are pretty handy for walking into Los Cris also, as well as the nice Safari shopping centre.
If you are interested in going slightly up coast towards the Fanabe/Costa Adeje there is Hotel Gran Tinerfe then on towards Torviscas is Princessa Dacil and the one mentioned by previous poster.
TBH as a first time visitor to Tenerife there is not one area that is better than another really, its just a matter of choices.
If you Google to download maps of Tenerife South you will get an overview of the area.
If you cant find any satisfactory maps let me know and I will PM you a link for a good downloadable one.

Hi
I have stayed in the dalias and it is a bit of a hike to the beach ( especially the return journey)
Have also stayed in the bitacora, a lovely hotel and all you could wish for, flat walk to the beach (about 5 minutes depending on which route you take or a more gentle stroll taking in the shops)
Not stayed in any of the others but all close to the beach.
We now always stay at the noelia sur,a lovely hotel and excellent value for money.
I am sure whichever one you choose you will have a fab time

hi the Princessa Dacil hotel is in loscristanos and its on a hill not far from beach about 5 mins to loscristanos but the la vista beach is a good walk abot 15 mins but a nice walk along the front
the torviscas hotel is very nice hotel thats on the beach ans mt daughter stayed at the las dalias this summer all incluisve and she said it was very good

We went to the Vulcano this October because of the reviews, but apparently. listening to regulars at the hotel, it is not as good as it used to be. Bed linen etc. is quite worn and it doesn't look like it is going to be replaced. Also food was not very hot at all and very samey.

The Bitacora however is apparently very good.
