Someone at work has booked this hotel for later in the year, but been told it having a total re-fit from begining of May for 18 months & so is the Sunrise Island Gardens. Think they have been offered Sunrise Diamond Beach or the other Sunrise in Sharm (tiriana aqua ?? maybe cant remember the name).
It has been confirmed by Thomas Cook that the Sunrise Island View will be closing from the 1st May 2012 for an 18 month refurbishment, they have cancelled my May booking and given me a full refund.
Doe we stayed at the Tirana last year it is a lovely hotel. The only downside is that it is in the middle of nowhere so taxis are needed to get around.
Think they have decided on the Sunrise Diamond Beach, they did a bit of research & it best suited their needs, from what I could remember it was next door to the Ritz Carlton, I know that area & there is Il Mercato mall which is a good substitute for Soho Square, plus Fantasia & Old Market & quicker in a cab to Naama than White Knights Bay is, so they should be fine.
hi vicjayhay , I think although the Tirana is a good hotel especially if you have kids of a certain age but it is a bit isolated for them, I guess either would have been OK though as Sunrise is a well established brand in the Red Sea Resorts.
I'm looking forward to the SIV being refurished as have always fancied it but with lots of reviews saying the rooms were tired it put me off. Maybe I will finally get there when it's done.
Sorry you have been cancelled sistersledge hope you manage to get something else to suit.

My sister in law flew out yesterday to stay at the Tirana. So glad i never booked the Sunrise Island View & decided on the Tropicana Azure Club.

I'm sure your sister in law will have a good time at the tirana though, i would imagine the hotel has a shuttle bus too and from the beach at certain times as most of the hotels not right on the beach seem to have access to a beach if guests want it.

Because of the refit, my friends who are going there in June have been upgraded to the Hilton in sharks bay
Hopefully they will enjoy that as much, more times than not the HSB comes up more expensive than the SIV & SGV (I am a saddo who often checks prices). It's in a similar location & the rooms in HSB are virtually all refubished on the original side, so very nice plus you get access to all the facilities of the deluxe side, so two for the price of one.

Just a quick update, my friends who were supposedly going into the sunrise this October have found out that it isnt shut for refurb (as tour operator TC has said). The hotel is closed as it has been bought out by the Russian Tour operators. So all guests have been moved to different hotels. I wish tour operators would tell the truth !
