The old Roman bridge spanning the River Bensafrim in Lagos has been summarily closed by the Camara as serious and potentially dangerous cracks have been discovered in two of the supporting arches. For the time being, at least, the only road access/ egress from the town from the E125 is via the new bridge past the Sail roundabout and McDonalds.
Any traffic from the Marina, Meia Praia and railway station areas wishing to return to town must follow the E125 easterly out of town as far as Chinicato and perform a 'U' turn there to return to Lagos.
The Camara are considering installing a temporary roundabout near the junction of Estrada da Meia Praia and the E125 but there's every possibility that, by the time they've considered it and then actually done something about it, Summer 2012 will have been consigned to history.
Many thanks for the update
Respect to the Lagos Council - the temporary roundabout at the junction of Estrada da Meia Praia and the EN 125 is already in place.
