From your perspective one of the good things is that Edinburgh has some very good pubs - while M'lady is investigating the joys of the Cannongate and Jeffreys Street, the Silver Tassie on the corner of the two would make a good resting place! If you're a fan of Ian Rankin and his Rebus novels, there is actually a Rebus Trail taking in all the pubs amongst other places named mentioned in the books - nearly all of them quite handily placed around the centre of Edinburgh. The Royal Oak is a bit off the beaten track but the Oxford Bar

describes itself as a 'Scout Hut for the over 30s' is particularly well situated for while she's exploring the shops in George Street
