Helen we stayed here last Easter - it was wonderful. The rooms are lovely, clean and modern and the breakfast big and beautiful.
The hotel is in a great location right at the edge of Pittville park and also local for the shopping - and boy what a lot of shops there are there. If you walk through the park (it's huge) with 2 lakes and on towards the racecourse you come to the old railway station and you can get a steam train to the next village, we did that, got off and then had lunch and a pint or two in the local pub there.
There is simply loads to do - all on foot so you can park up (if going by car) and no need for it until you go home. We really loved it there and hope you do too!

looks Good Helen . Never been to cheltenham although my MIL has a few times . What's there anyone ? Is it mostly shops or is there some history we can take in too .

Loads of shops Lyn and loads of history too.. Best of both worlds.

Thanks Denny .. May take a looksey . Did you use your clubcard vouchers Helen ??
Reply
No Lyn - I'm saving them for October :rofl A work colleague goes there for a day trip every year and is always saying how nice the place is.

Forgot to say there is carparking around the back or the guy will give you a parking permit so that you can park at the front. You won't need your car at all as everything is close by.

Thanks Denny - The first thing I checked was car parking, as it can be very expensive to park in the public car parks overnight. This was one of the reasons we opted for Cheltenham over Exeter.

If anyone sees any voucher codes for restaurants in Cheltenham, can you please post them here please. We'll be there from 5th - 8th June. Thank you :tup

I know we've talked about this on OTL Helen but how about getting a free trial of the taste card before you go .. Just had a look at the website and there are a fair few restaurants listed in cheltenham . I'd check on the MSE forum first to see where you can get the longest free trial as they only offer one month here . http://www.tastecard.co.uk/

Thanks Lyn - I'll take a look :tup

cheltenham is a wonderfull town all fairly compact with lots of shops. if you want to explore a little you dont have to drive far for peacefull countryside and historic village towns like stow-on-the wold, stroud and gloster. are you going to have a day at the races to?? ;)

We would have had, but it doesn't look as though there's any on when we're there.

Just been checking out toptable.com for Cheltenham restaurants. It seems as though one of our favourite restaurants - Zizzis, is the no 1 restaurant on that site, and is in an old church building, which should be interesting. I've just been checking out their vouchers, and the current one expires just 2 days before we arrive. I'm hoping that they'll have a new one immediately :tup

Just thought I'd do a short report of our trip to Cheltenham. We left home at 10am and had a reasonably clear road to Monmouth, where we decided to stop for lunch - when we saw that they were still serving brunch we opted for that. There was loads of roadworks on the way, but we made good time. We found the Townhouse reasonably easy, and were pleased with it's quiet location. The hotel itself was an elegant building, which was furnished suitably for it's era. After checking in, we headed out in the rain for a quick nosey around.
We had a hot chocolate at Costa Coffee and we found La Tasca and booked a table for the evening. Headed back to the hotel to unpack around 5ish, and were heading out again at 7pm. As usual the food at a Tasca was stunning. We had a voucher for 5 dishes each for £10pp - great value. We had abottle of wine and spent the evening here.
We were in the breakfast room at 8am the following day, and the food was beautiful. Everything was cooked fresh, when you ordered. It was teeming down with rain outside, so braving the weather we headed for one of the indoor shopping arcades. Spent an hour or so here, then we had a coffee to warm up. Hubby headed to the bookies, and to look for Zizzi's restaurant. We had vouchers for here too, and we knew it was located in a beautiful church. I continued with my shopping and met hubby for a late lunch in Wetherspoons. We stopped here and there on the way back to the hotel, to get changed for the evening. It was almost too miserable to go out in the night, but the receptionist told us of a lovely restaurant that was just around 200 yards away. We made a reservation for 8.30, and popped into one of the locals for a drink. I had pork medallions in a bourbon sauce, served on a burrito with spinach, and a sweet potato, cheese & black kale mash - it was smashing. We were back reading in the hotel by 10pm.
Thursday was a serious shopping day for me. Unforunately hubby's bad ankle had swollen to twice it's size, so he had a job to keep up with me. We eventually bought him another pair of shoes, which seemed to give him some relief. I left him in one of the arcades enjoying a coffee with his paper and made plans to meet later. I managed to find some accesories for my wedding outfit and was happy with my lot. The weather was attrocious, and we were soaked by the time we got to Zizzi's for our late lunch at 3.30pm. We were so glad we made the effort though. The restaurant in the little church was stunning. I could have sat there for hours, just admiring the painted glass windows, and soaking up the atmosphere. The food was superb, and the bill even better, as I'd given them a code, but they still made a mistake with it. We landed up having an Italian bread board starter, 2 main meals, one ice cream desert, a bottle of beer and a glass of wine for £23 :tup It was a long trek back to the hotel, and it must have taken us a good half hour. A warm bath each warmed us up, and neither of us felt like getting wet again, so we ended up in a pub just down the road, with some nuts and crisps, as our evening meal :rofl
The weather put paid to any idea of exploring in the Cotswold county, that 'll have to be done on another visit, but we throughly enjoyed our shopping/didning experience in Cheltenham :D and I'm sure we'll return one day.
