Me, my boyfriend, my brother and his girlfriend are looking to take a week's holiday to Greece in mid September this year. We are in our mid to late 20s and want to go somewhere which has great beaches, some decent places to visit and nightlife that isn't too rowdy. We want to try and rent a villa or apartment with a bbq area and a pool (communal or private) so that we can eat and drink to our own timetable. We will also hire a car so that we can visit various places.
However, we are having problems deciding on which Greek island to visit. We only have a week so we want somewhere that is easy to get to and has enough to do but isn't too rowdy. Does anyone have any suggestions? We would prefer to avoid mykonos, crete and zykanthos if possible.

Are you planning on doing a diy or package holiday? The reason I ask is that I think you'd struggle to find a package holiday, advertising a selection of villas with outdoor bbq areas. The main TAs usually have hotel rooms and apartments which are part of a complex, whether it be large or small. However maybe you're planning on using a specialist holiday villa company such as james Villas etc.
Before I go on to suggest a Greek island/resort that might be suitable for you, it might be worth you looking which destinations you can fly to using a nearby airport, unless of course you don't mind which airport you fly from.

hi ...could think about Rhodes....there are different types of resorts there...plenty to do...and as your thinking of hiring a car a great place to go drive and explore ...You say want to hire somewhere with BBQ so can eat as you like.....do SC somewhere where there are nice resturants ect ...will be easier to find than a villa....Ive booked for pefkos SC as like eat when I want....and lots of reasobably priced resturants ect ...My eldest got married there and my 17 and 29yr old loved it there ....loads of TO's go to rhodes...and flights from many airports...so easy to get to...tweetie
We are planning on a DIY holiday. We will probably fly from London as it the easiest place for everyone to meet but obviously we can be flexible if it is cheaper from elsewhere. I have seen a number of villas/apartments for private rental within our budget in various places but am struggling to narrow down which island will best suit four people who all have slightly different ideas of what makes a good holiday!

obviously it will depend where the villas are located in relation to which towns but.. for youngens like yourselves [also thinking of cost] take a look at you look at
Zakynthos [Zante] [Laganas is the party area but most of the other villages have good entertainment]
Kos [Kahdamena is the party town but again plenty going on around Kos town and a couple of other areas]
Kritty [Crete] Malia is the party area but there are loads of resorts with good entertainment try looking around Sissi Bay
but whatever you think please read the resort reports then ask again giving full details of what island and area you are trying to decide on [plwase use correct forum]

I would suggest Samos - its seems to have a bit of different feel than other islands I have visited, very relaxed and quiet even in peak season. Some great beaches and the harbour front at Pythagorion is a great place to spend an evening with a cocktail or three watching some seriously amazing yachts and a beautiful landscape with some stunning mountain villages.
