I like to do lots of research. Currently looking at two destinations for next easter or may half term holidays, both of which we have been to before. Even so there's still lots we missed or didn't get around to doing last time, so plenty of scope still for research.
We went AI to both places last time but are now considering half board or even a self catering apartment, so more research to do on accomidation, and places to eat out this time!
I wish easyjet flights would hurry up and get released for next year, as i'm itching to get them booked, but i know it could be as late as september to wait i keep looking at the accomidation and hotels i'm interested in and hoping that the prices dont go up, or worse still they have no availibility for my dates
I do a lot of research these days after booking a hotel in Jandia which was miles away from anywhere there wasn't one shop nearby It was a terrible holiday so we're more careful what we book now.
yes do lots of research before booking. Every time we've done Thailand we've done it independently - and I enjoy hunting out nice places to stay ( I just ask ShirleyV now though ) - Cambodia we also did on our own and I even managed to find a driver to meet us at Siem Reap through the net AND he was waiting for us! Sorting out bus/train and ferry timetables too as we prefer to use public transport. Goa we do a package but after a few days head off south via bus to stay at different locations I've found on the beach.
I can't think where to go next year
I like to have a look at hotel reviews before I book and any recommended trips. If there is a nice restaurant I will jot the name down but it isn't imperative to go there. OH has no interest in researching. He jokes about it and asks me if I know 'the colour of the bathroom tiles' or 'what's on the menu today'!!
my other half thinks im mad with the amount i do.. always look and writing stuff down
I do have a problem with my left and right though! Remember going to Prague for 4 days and so far my research had paid off....bus from airport to railway station....all fine. I said I ONLY know we turn LEFT when we come out the station. Trundling our 'hold' luggage on wheels over all the cobbles.....15minutes later O.H. looked around ..noticed where the water was and said 'WRONG....RIGHT!!!'
Living overseas, we no longer book package holidays and rely on DIY so finding the best flights, times and hotel costs are all part of the fun.
We generally have an idea of where we want to go and have revisited places too but we don't always go back to the same resorts or hotels each time.
I do as much as I can, really. After a well chosen ticket and hotel, I always google map all the distances between hotel and primary sightseeings, print maps, by tickets in advance. If possible, one of those packages that include most attractions. i've used Roma pass for coliseum and other spots in Rome and Paris Pass for many of
