The Delta Sharm website says they have a dive school based there - does anybody know it's name, or better still have a weblink?
Thanks ;)

Not sure that it is an independant one, maybe more linked directly to the hotel as I cant seem to find out any more info than that. perhaps you could post your question in YD (if you are a member). If you are not, I will ask and see if anyone can help.

Thanks Val - I'm not a member, so if you could ask, that would be great

Did 2 dives (on Nitrox) both about 40 minutes one outside and the second in through all the holds and cabins.

The lad touching the propeller is my son Ben.

Yeh that's what Dave and my 2 lads did julian . Did the Nitrox course on the Thistlegorn at easter .Theory all on the boat journey. It was really choppy the day they did it but from what he was telling me I think it always is due to it's position isnt it . Lovely and calm once they got down though but think he found it rather a challenge getting down those ropes. the 30 fags a day are taking their toll on the old fella :rofl

Lyn, the dive boats are totally empty. We were hearing from a mate only on Monday. Many boats have parked up and most of the little custom out there is British. The day boats have sailed with only 3 or 4 people on board. There was an instance of just 1 boat being on the Thistlegorm and those 3 divers had the entire wreck to themselves. Unheard of. (oh how I would wish for that)

from what I can gather, the liveaboards are doing ok still as they sail to sea for a week and that is that..but the liveaboards are mainly Brits wth the odd Scandinavian thrown in for good measure.

Dave should be able to virtually name his own price as the operators are so desperate to get any trade. If he and your lads are diving, the boat may well sail just with them 4 on it. I think the big operators are feeling the pinch, such as Oonas, Camel, Emporer and Euro etc but are still going..but the smaller ones...they have give up the ghost and got rid of many dive masters etc. They keep hoping it will pick up..but as yet, many other countries have still not even restored flights back there..

We were told the Germans are trickling back very slowly and there are virtually no flights from Russia.

Things have been so dire, we were wondering if there was any possibility of us picking up a cheap liveaboard since we had to kiss goodbye to our hols in Gozo...

I will see if i can find some links as to who is offering the best deals at the minute..are you in Naama or Sharks?

Val . They always use Sinai dive club who operate out of Hilton sharks Bay where we will be staying and down in NB.. novotel I believe or maybe the hilton Fayrouz. http://www.dive-club.com/sinai-dive-club/. Dave usually prefers just to go out on their rib boat rather than the day boat out of NB but that is only because he likes to keep it relaxed and doesnt like it when those day boats are full of russians . I think he want's to do the Thistlegorm again or maybe Dahab and obviously he will need the day boat for that. sometimes they've been lucky and had the boat to themselve and others the complete opposite

The only other people I think he will consider is Emperor . As ou know he wasn't keen on Ooonas. Eldest not coming so just the 3 of them this time .

If I was him I would go for a day boat as it will be very relaxed...so few people on them.

Thistlegorm would be very good at this time as there are so few about..but all dependant on the tides of course. It is only the tides that make it a difficult dive rather than the depth..oh and the fact that are usually too many chuffin divers there it is easy to lose which one is your buddy, the viz gets kicked up as some have poor bouyancy and fin control...and everyone is trying to be in the same spaces at once...

I would recommend Emporer over Oonas any day. I think I have said that before.

if you are staying in NB..perhaps Camel would be worth a try

http://www.cameldive.com/about/camel-hotel# very good reputation and they run out to Dahab quite often

I have also dived with these before....but I would like to bet at the minute, all will offer you the earth at a very cheap price!

We don't even go near NB val. Can't bear it down there . Stay put in the hotel and they normally do everything from there unless it's a collection in the morning for the day boat.

This news should please him tonight though :D

Now is totally the best time to do the Thistlegorm...may even get it cheaper too as the boats are desperate for business.
The best time to do it..only in my opinion of course is very early in the morning before all the other boats have arrived..I think I did it at about 6am...there was only our boat on it as we had moored up the night before...still, there was about 18 of us..Dave might get even luckier.

I think alot of the dive schools attached to specific hotels are not operating as there have been so few guests..if your hotel has its own, you may find they have automatically latched on to a bigger outfit such as Camel, Emporer etc..in which case, they would do all the fetching etc from the hotel to the jetty at NB. Might be wise to check first to make sure you dont end up diving with OOnas by default so to speak.

Hmm . Will check nearer the time Val. The hilton at Sharks bay does get a high proportion of English guests over Easter so it may pick up for them but may email ahead to see if I can get a good deal before everyone gets there.

i am going to nabq bay in may. my hubby and son are scuba divers .i cant seem to work out if there is any diving from there, i know there is a dive center attached to the hotel but will they have to travel to naama bay to do the actual diving.thankyou

What hotel are you staying at samantha .. If there is a dive centre attached they would normally transfer them down to the day boats at NB. There may also be a hotel house reef that they use or maybe they will have a rib-boat available for local sites.

When we were at Nabq, my daughter went diving with Aquarius they seemed to collect people from the holiday village, the Coral Sea and then they drove down to the beach where the Coral Sea Imperial was soon (or not so soon) to be the Sensatori Resort and they went out from there both days.

Dont take it as gospel that this will still be happening though as I think due to lack of numbers there is a bit of consolidation going on.

Aquarius have a hut on the beach at the front of the holiday village that they do the selling from, but I think the place where they store the kit/wet suits etc is nearer the coral sea resort. Sorry to be vague but I dont dive myself.

:sun2
Edit: I've just googled them and they still seem to be in business so thats something lol hopefully the link will work

it depends what the dive itinery is...some diving will be able to be done localy..but equally, it will depend on how many are at the hotel and wanting to dive each day. It may just be that they are transported to Naama Bay to join another day boat. Aquarius is not a dive school i have knowledge of to be honest. For a trip to Ras Mo or the Thistlegorm for example, it is more likey that would be transported to NB.

I have also dived with

orca-diving.com and easydivers which both were good. Orca diving was in Soma bay, excellent diving and easydivers were ok but the bill came out very high for only 6 dives (about 400 Euro) so be ware what you end up paying!
