Still waiting for a bargain flight price, or within our budget - but we ain't paying over the odds. We would hate to miss Goa due to this, but it's getting tougher and tougher.
Work is still okay but a change in contracts, makes it even harder with a drop in wages. We have 10 days in Gran Alacant coming up in 12 days time, all paid for - Ryan air flights for 2 = £300 + apartment £270 through Owners Direct, big roof terrace/bbq choice of 3 pools etc. Spend out there wasn't bad last year and we should benefit better this year with the rate being higher.
We could book for 2 x 2 week breaks for next year and still be under what Goa costs.
Fingers crossed flight prices change for Goa, or it will be a 1st miss in 15 years.
I hope you get there. Goa is like a drug, but it is definetely getting more expensive to go, I have heard that it is going to cost more on visas this year, so when you factor everything in, you could get all inclusive (which I hate!) for the same amount of time you would be in goa. I really hope you get your holiday.
If, as was discussed earlier in this thread, reduction in charter flights means 3000 less people fly to Goa each week of the season, and if the season is say 20 weeks long, then that’s a reduction of maybe 60,000 people buying visas. And at around £40 per visa, or even more, that’s a reduction of maybe 2.4 million pounds in income for just the Indian embassies and VFS in the UK.
And the loss in income in Goa accordingly has to be very high. I don’t believe that the increase in local tourists will in any way make up for the Brit spend.
Either
1.Someone, somewhere, in authority is going to get upset about this and try to get more Brit tourists to go next year
Or
2. Everyone involved – including the visa issuers/vendors - will ramp up prices still further in a useless attempt to maintain income levels.
And, sadly, I’ll bet they go for option 2.
Alan

You could well be right about the reduction in the number of charter flights seats from the UK but a lot of people have said they are booking scheduled flights this year because the charters have been asking silly prices.
I don't see how anyone can even guess at how many have booked scheduled flights, could be more or less than 60,000 but as you have made no allowance for them your figures are incorrect to say the least

Looking in a couple of times a week, seeing who is down for the Carvery meets in December, any more interesting threads etc.
Brenliz and Roma- hope you enjoyed Turunc. We stayed there a couple of years ago and really liked it, much more laid back than the main resorts.
strange that becouse all my E.mails from HT were going into spam till i told it not spam...maybe that is happening to many others, could it possibly becouse of the changes made at ht,computers dont recognise it anymore, dont know just guessing, but that could be where the missing people are
Mine are all going into spam too. Yes Moles, we loved Turunc, are booking to go back next year.
Mine don't go into spam but don't go anywhere else either because there just aren't many. I still check the Tunisian forum daily but that has almost died. As with Goa, the tour operators have put up the prices and flights with TC and Thomsons seem to have gone through the roof. I've relied on BA for some time as they are considerably cheaper but not everyone is confident enough to book independently. The added concern many people still feel about that part of the world is obviously adding to the downward spiral and increasing prices is certainly not the way to improve the situation.
all my E.mails from HT were going into spam
maybe that has got something to do with it? and also maybe other people dont know its back up and running like Moles, kent
I din't realise this site was back up and running and i'm on the internet everyday.
Yeah, the e-mail issue is real. I don't get any from HT in my Outlook Express mail, only in my BT Yahoo spam box. I don't know how I've got two to be honest, but when I went over to BT Vision and Broadband the new one appeared, yet Outlook Express remained. So I check both now. Not that computer savvy!! (clearly).
Mine have never stopped going into my inbox,so must only be affecting some people maybe
Its due to BT's "sophsticated" spam software, my emails from HT get dumped in spam to.
It seems to depend on your email host as to whether it goes into spam or not as mine dont seem to be. Id suggest adding the email which is noreply @ ht.co.uk ht being holidaytruths to your "safe list" for now.
Ill do some further changes to the way emails are sent so they they aren't seen as Spam.
We are thinking of sending out a regular email to members on a bi monthly basis perhaps. With updates etc, as when we did this when the server came back up we had a lot of old members coming back on to post
Thanks for letting me no guys, its appreciated.
Cheers, Phil
