Hi - I'm here for a bit of advice or to see if anyone has experienced this before as I want to know my rights on this issue!

My mother and I are travelling to New York in a few weeks and booked our hotel and fights as part of a package with a high street travel agent. As it is for my 30th my mum (who is 63) and I decided tp splash out and spent £2500 for four nights in the city including flights (room only at the hotel). We had seen a reccomended hotel, and asked the travel agent to book us a twin at the hotel, which she did no problem and no questions asked. We signed our contract and paid in full before the final dates.

When our confirmation arrived, our room was down as a "double" not a twin. When I called in to ask about this - they have told us, the hotel "does not do twin rooms" - "In fact," they tell me "twins are really rare in New York". I wouldnt know this, Ive not been before. Nor it seems did our travel agent whom we booked with back in March, as she booked us a twin no bother. It seems they did not check that the hotel even does twins.
Not that I dont love my mum, but weve not shared a bed since I was five, and we are stuck with either sharing, a portable bed added to our 5* room, or paying DOUBLE(!!!) for a two bedded apartment.

Now I feel very angry, that the contract I signed clearly stated a twin, and we were not given an opportunity to change to a hotel that did twins at the time of booking if we had been told our hotel did not do them (we had back up hotels). We paid more for a 5* thinking we were splashing out, when now we could have had two double beds (as a twin) for £200 each less at a Hilton Times square or Best Western. They were aware it was for a mother and daughter as we both went to together to book, so one double bed should never have entered their minds.

Why did I pay for and sign up to something that did not exist? More imortantly, does anyone know my rights and how I go about ensuring I get the best outcome? We travel in four weeks!
