I would say you would have closer to 6 hours. Try the Midland hotel- they have shuttles to and from the airport. They were sold out for my dates but they come in at about £45. I think its far less stress than wondering what to do when you are jetlagged and tired.

Hi,

have just looked at the midland, and it is available for £52, this is really stupid question, but would you book in from the 28th - which is stupid as I suppose you woudl!!l lol. What time would we need to be back at the airport for if the flight is 12.15 - 10.00am? have breakfast and leave?

did you look directly at the hotel? You would book the 28th( I'm assuming you are arriving at 3am on the 29th?) Contact the hotel with your flight details. I would aim for 10.15 but I wouldn't worry about getting there any earlier. I'm sure a few regulars have used the hotel in the past- not luxury but it gets good enough reviews and all you need is a clean bedroom.

We once arrived at Mumbai around 5am, too late for the first flights out and as you know, there is then a big gap until lunchtime. We waited in Cafe Coffee Day in the domestic terminal for over 5 very long hours. It was exhausting. If you can afford it I think it would be worth getting the hotel. You can have a few hours sleep and freshen up before the Indigo flight.

Hudo - I' d stay in the airport. You only have 9 hrs between arrival and departure. Say one hour to do immigration, 2 hours to check in before departure - that leaves 6hrs to get to a hotel, check in, shower, sleep and return. Sounds worse than staying in the airport with a book and a couple of coffees.

We spent 11hrs there and you just deal with it. Not great but a good book and iPod helps.

Get the transfer bus to the domestic terminal.
Once there you can find somewhere to sit & read, play cards, listen to music, get a snack or a meal.
There is no reason to go outside either the International or domestic terminal.

Hi,

You sound as if you have done this a few times. I thought you could not go into the airport until 3 -4 hours before your flight. Also people are saying that because of this you have to stay outside the airport as they will not let you in, and that there is nothing that is open this time in the morning. So we thought well we have to get a hotel, but would sooner save the money if there is another option as it is about 60pounds.

Many thanks

Certainly the International terminal seems to apply thr four hour rule before flights pretty strictly, sometimes their seems to be masses of people miling about at times. I have never tried getting into the Domestic terminal in the middle of the night, I would have imagined that it would be the same as normaly no domestic flights would be leaving at that time.

We didn't have a problem getting in with more than 4 hours to go but hey, this is India and rules change by the day! There is a waiting room at the international airport that costs 60rps, perhaps you could make your way there for a few hours.

When you go to the domestic terminal from the international terminal you are dropped off inside the airport. The only check is that you have a reservation. We have arrived on flights at midnight, got the internal bus and waited in the domestic terminal until the first flight out. thew terminal is open 24hrs.

At the International terminal you are dropped off outside the airport.
We have never been refused admission (Often 5-6 hours before departure).
If anyone tells you you cannot go in just tell them you have been told by the airline that you can catch an earlier flight.

This is our experience over the past 8 years of traveling via Mumbai.

Is there any cafes or lounges we could go in. But thanks very much for this, just what we wanted to know. I don't mind waiting about, but I did not want to wait outside the airport with luggage getting hassled.

Thanks
