My family, mum, sister, brother in law, me, my partner and my son returned from Thailand/Hong Kong on sunday. The purpose of the trip was to scatter my dads ashes.
The trip was a 3 part multi centre - phuket-bangkok-hong kong. When our paperwork arrived for the holiday we noticed that the leg of the trip from bangkok to hong kong was wrong, they had us flying from phuket to hong kong. I phoned the travel company to query this (Travelbag) and was assured it was a typing error and we were booked on the right flights.
When we arrived at bangkok airport and after queuing and querying for 2 hours we were told we were not booked on the flights! We spoke to Air Asia who confirmed we were booked on the phuket-HK flight. I phoned Travelbag and they advised i should book new flights and claim a refund. I did this but the flights were for the following morning at 630am (the original flight was 4pm). I had to again speak to travelbag and ASK them to sort out a hotel overnight in bangkok, our transfers in HK and our hotel in HK. They couldnt sort out transfers in bangkok and we had to use taxi's, at no point during any of our conversations was an apology offered and in fact the first person i spoke to actually laughed when i told him what the problem was!
Travelbag are refunding all our out of pocket expenses/missed day etc and have offered £50pp compensation. I dont think this is a fair amount (the holiday cost £9000) What would you consider to be fair?
it was very stressful trying to sort it all out, my mum was in tears and it ruined HK for her and us, so much so she actually fell out with all of us for the time we were there due to the stress (her best friends funeral was also the following day which obviously pushed her over the edge )
I know £50 is the standard amount to be offered but not sure what to counter it with
secondly, they have offered to pay all your out of pocket expenses including something for the lost day in bangkok.
this puts you, in monetary terms, back to square one and they have offered you £50 each on top.
i think this is probably a reasonable settlement and the speed they have offered to settle this is almost unheard of in the travel industry and they should be commended for that.
sorry about your loss but i think their offer is reasonable
Thanks for your reply. They have come back and offered an additional £50 per person off the cost of another holiday. I have turned this down as we wouldnt want to book with them again, not because things go wrong, but because they lied about it! I have said if they changed that to cash we would accept
Please let us know what their response is.
