I knew i had a curvature of the spine for lifting my disabled son for years on my left hip, but until recently had no idea i have osteoarthritis from the top to the bottom of my spine.
I explained to my doctor that i could not sleep from a night shift due to pain in back that kept me a wake.
The GP put me on Naproxen, which i admit, i do not take often (as on enough pills), but also 30/500 of Zapain (Co-codamol with Codeine) These tablets with food were extremely good. Took two a day before going to bed, no pain whatsoever.
Been on these now for about 6 months, never taking any more than two tablets, but in the past fortnight have experienced side effects. Firstly a couple of nights stomach aches, then when i don't take them (when i have no pain) i am restless and cannot sleep.
I rang my GP for a telephone conversation this morning, i couldn't get my usual GP. This unknown GP (to me) said i was suffering side effects from the withdrawal of codeine.
The GP has now put me on a lower dose of 15/500 instead of 30/500. He stated i shouldn't get the side effects from withdrawal as bad.
I suffer with IBS anyway so i just assumed the tummy pain was from that and the fact of the codeine. I am not sure what to think really, the 8/500 did not touch me, back killed. Surely there are other different pain relief that can help someone with arthritis without the bad withdrawal symptoms i am getting when i do not take them?
