Hi all,
Apologies about the vagueness but as I understand it my very good friend who has a holiday home in Florida has ' normal ' home insurance but not ' flood '. They have now had a burst pipe. Is this covered ? Is flood in Florida a burst riverbank, ocean or literally water damage ? I have heard many conflicting views particularly a ' special ' insurance for water not covered by home contents. American law / Insurance confusing us.
Please help
Thanks in advance

I live in the USA.
Household insurance should cover a sudden leak from a damaged pipe. It will not cover flood damage, from an outside source- that requires a separate specific flood policy. Most commercial insurance companies will not sell flood insurance (or charge $$$ for those in flood prone areas) but it can be purchased through the government. See Floodsmart.gov
Of course the best answer is tell them to call their Insurance company...
