Ive booked and payed for a family holiday to marmaris on the 23rd of sept. Our first holiday with the kids abroad ..
I was diagnosed with gall stones last week and have had 2 attacks which have required medical attention once and home and once in hospital all over the space of a month, Today I went for a follow up and my doc has referred me to see a surgeon to have my gallbladder removed, He also didn't seem to happy about me continuing with my holiday plans.
Has anyone travelled to turkey with gallstones? Im worrying about the hospital side of things over there?
Im armed with strong painkillers, good insurance, and the hotel have welcomed my parents for 15 years so im sure id be well looked after if anything happened.
can anyone give opinions, tips etc ? Im really worrying x
If they will still cover you (and you might have to pay extra to extend your cover) then they will probably want confirmation from either your GP or the consultant that you are fit for travel. If as you say, the surgeon is not happy and willing to provide this but then you still travel against his advice then you could again find that you won't be covered if anything happens while you are away. Either way you could find that this turns into the most expensive holiday you've even had if you end up with large hospital bills for surgery while you are out there and that's before you even begin to consider the cost of being repatriated for treatment here.

I have had a quote from a insurance company that deal with illness and disability and to cover gallstones as a pre existing condition and being aware that im awaiting treatment the cost was £59.00
Have you actually informed your insurance company about your condition. I had gallstones surgery earlier on this year and my insurance company wouldn't cover me to travel during the time I was waiting to go into hospital and for six months after the op.
Are we being negative? Not in my opinion as both SMa and Judith are experienced travelers and as long standing members of HT know of many horror stories from people asking for help here on HT.

If you have just phoned since you were diagnosed do they know that the Surgeon doesnt advise you to go on holiday?
Its unlikely they will pay out should you have an acute attack whilst away.
You could end up with a medical bill of several thousand pound should you require medical care in Marmaris.

I thought id ring and double check the details rather than just do it online.
So are you saying that you don't yet have any insurance in place? If that is the case I am very surprised that any company is willing to provide cover given the facts you have given us here. You will have to give a full history, including the number of attacks and the hospital treatment etc. Leave one fact out and you give them an excuse to refuse any claim that you might need to make. Also, I would be surprised if they are willing to provide cancellation cover in your circumstances because the odds are that there is a high risk that you would have to cancel. Insurance companies are reluctant to take on anything other than a safe bet that you won't need to claim.
I'm sorry if this all sounds rather negative but if you travel without ensuring that they will meet all possible claims then you really do have few options other that to accept that you might have to cancel and absorb the loss if you can't eg sell the holiday on for the cost of a name change.

I will be following low fat diet to the book no alcohol and taking all my painkillers with me. I feel relieved that I know im covered. I think it certainly helps to still speak to real people when sorting insurance out for health issues sometimes that just going through the computer. Im on holiday with two nursing friends also so im feeling a little more settled.
I will be using these next three weeks to tweak my diet and find what works for me so hopefully no attacks
i am having same problem finding insurance which company did u use
