Not good at all really for any Brits who are still wishing to travel to Sharm, El Gouna, Marsa Alam etc the chances are that if you get there your hotel may either be shut and you will be placed in an alternative. Experience from January 2011 does show that TO's tend to refer to the alternatives as 'upgrades' but they may still not be what you really want as you may change from say a couples orientated hotel to a family one, even if it s of a higher star rating.
If that doesn't happen you could be in a hotel with 15% occupancy and all that implies i.e. no atmosphere, reduced availability of restaurants, some of the room blocks closed completely, so that hey don't have to be serviced
On top of all that there will be many flight consolidations.
A tough time for anyone out there, especially those working in tourism and tourists themselves.
Feel sad for them, will be keeping next Springs prospective trip under review until more is known.
It will be interesting to see if the Russians, Italians, Germans, Benelux start flying to the Red Sea again in the autumn. Particularly the first two as they have always made up a large proportion of visitors.
Apparently at the moment they are trying to encourage Egyptians to holiday in Sharm at rock bottom prices just to fill as many hotel beds as they can.

I have a friend at work who is going with her family ( daughter and grown up grand kids ) at Easter , I think it's Rixos they have booked , does sound worrying though .
I thinks its exclusive to Thomson so they are hoping its got plenty of guests.
We would have joined them as we loved it when it was the Conrad but its way to expensive for us as we could have 2-3 holidays for what its costing.!

Rixos is a massive hotel as well, so in a way that will be worse with only a few guests maybe it will pick up a bit by Easter.
German travel firms have announced that flights to the Red Sea resorts will start again at the end of this month.
