My Daughters are flying out to majorca on thursday and only taking hand luggage.. can they take their hair straighteners with them?
also when flying home, if they buy cigarettes from duty free do they have to squash them into hand luggage, or can they carry them through once they have gone through security etc?
Your daughters can take their straighteners with them in their hand luggage. For the cigarettes it depends on the airline they are travelling with, some will allow the duty free purchases to be carried seperately other require them to be placed in the hand luggage.
I seem to remember the cigarette allowance from the Balearic's is lower than the EU allowance
The Balearics are part of the EU , same allowance , The Canaries are not for tax purposes even though they are also part of Spain too .
thank you .. daughters will be happy about the hair straighteners
I think Ryan air are the only airline that insist everything you buy in Duty Free must be placed in your hand luggage.
Remember the handbag also has to go in the hand luggage

Again depends on the airline, some will allow a small handbag to be carried in addition to the cabin bag.
It's the inconsistency that gets me...came back from Corfu ten days ago with Thomson- the crew allowed some enormous holdalls on as hand luggage ,...reckon the bags alone probably weighed 2 or 3 Kgs and I doubt if they met the dimension rules (unless folded and empty!!) PLUS the ground staff didn't even look at hand baggage ..the woman directly in front of us had a large handbag, a small holdall AND a shopping bag. As a result the flight crew were having to find spaces for latecomers hand luggage as the overhead bins were almost completely full. Yet when I flew to Kenya last November the check in staff weighed everything and we left a heated argument between a couple and the girl at check in over what they needed to leave behind!!
