Very glad to have found a site called "Holiday TRUTHS"! Have just finished reading a riveting book called "Athens - THE TRUTH" (David Cade), packed full of all sorts of truths about Athens and Greece. I really recommend it. Very insightful. Lots of information too on Greek music, and recent history. Got my copy through Syntagma Square "Public" but also available direct from UK, Amazon Germany, Italy, BookDepository, etc.
Would be interested to learn of any other books about Greece which are as honest and forthright. Only other book I've read that got as near to Athens - THE TRUTH was Dinner With Persephone (Patricia Storace), very feminist and quite forthright, but "Athens - THE TRUTH" tops it. Also because it's more recent it's more up-to-date.
Will be grateful for all suggestions about similar books either on Athens or Greece in general!
Many Thanks.
I would recommend Blue Skies & Black Olives by John Humphrys. This is an account of the authors trials & tribulations of buying a holiday home in the Peloponesse. We know this area quite well and the book captures the essence of Greek ways perfectly.
Thanks! I admire Humphrys greatly. Approved of his book on English grammar!
