I wonder if it's something to do with the bone structure of our feet?

I have an incredibly high instep. As a child thousands of years ago my mam would save up to buy me Clarks shoes. She would then have to save, from her student nurses wage, to pay extra to get the leather bar lengthened in order for it to reach the buckle over my instep.

I still struggle with 'off the peg' shoes & can't buy boots that don't have an ankle length zip as I can't get my foot 'down & under' in so I can get get the boot on :(

As a child it was a military operation to put my wellies on, then a surgical procedure to get the burgers off!! Still the same today :( I could make a successful comedy sketch about boot putter oners and taker offers

I think it may be something to do with the bone structure of the feet Glynis but I am not sure if it's the high instep as I have one of those but can wear flip flops quite successfully. Maybe you need strong ankles as well, as they seem to take the strain as well and can ache if you end up walking around in them for three hours.

Before our last holiday DD and I went to a nail place me to have a pedicure and her acrylics (yes we are from Essex :rofl ) and I picked some nice fancy jewelled flip flops off a display and they were these Havanas, who on earth pays £82 :yikes for a bit of plastic embellished with probably more plastic. I'm so out of touch expected them to be about £30.

Yes I'm another one putting a spanner in the works re high insteps..

I have got stubby little feet and I can wear flip flops fine.
My husband has got long thin flat feet and he can't wear them very well...if he wears them to the hotel pool, I nearly die of embarrassment when they make loud cracking sounds on each laboured step he takes on the stairs.....

I did start wearing them as a child, used to go camping in Europe with my parents and was bought some there after asking for them (and being told I wouldn't get on with them) so maybe I grew up being used to them

My current ones are my favourites, I picked them up in a sale in El Corte Ingles in Palma, Mallorca, several years ago, they are Tommy Hilfiger ones and the best part is the contoured base with an arch support, they are SOOOOO comfy.

Not sure what to get when they finally disintegrate, I've never found any the same anywhere else

LOL

I'm lovin' this thread.... it's making me giggle.
It could perhaps be down to the glass of Chilean wine by the side of me though, or maybe I'm just really looking forward to summer!

Hee hee what will they think of next :D

Acorncup, I could cope with your hubbies flipflop sounds...what I can't cope with, and drives me to nearly committing murder is people who 'scrape' their footwear across the floor. I'm like someone possessed if they follow me up the promenade, I feel like screaming "Pick your feet up!"

£30 for flipflops :yikes :rofl

:yikes :rofl got tears rolling down my cheeks here Glynis, obviously you are neither from Essex nor would consider parting with 82 quid for a pair of flippies.

I work with a women from Australia and they call them thongs there which always tickles me. But I guess thongs are a different subject (talking about uncomfortable items)

I think you have cracked it acorncup, I have got stubby little feet as well with a high instep, maybe that's the key to keeping them on in a pain free manner.

My Mum would never let me have them as a child she thought they were dangerous, I had to wear the little jelly shoes you got in Woolworths.

Great thread Fi :tup

Doe one of my pairs of flipflops cost £2.99 from Shoezone. They are ultra light and really comfy, almost identical to my flipflop crocs except lighter. I wear them when we go for long walks on holiday.

I'm from the North East, where, when I was born, was classed as North Yorkshire ;) So £82 for a pair of flippies, no way jose :rofl That's the cost of a flight!! :yikes

I have to admit to now only buying more expensive flip flops - such as Reef Fannings or the like. I find that I need some arch support so my legs dont hurt and these are so comfortable.

I bought these and can now cope with putting flip flops on :hyper
However I can't wear them for more than just round the pool as , if walking any distance, I can't keep right one on.
