There are many great places to visit in the south of England, but why choose this area.
1. The weather: It is generally warmer than other parts. Up to now, it has still been quite warm along the south coast, with many people not turning their heating on. Of course it is not comparable to the Mediterranean, but it is noticeably warmer than other parts of the UK.
2. The scenery: Mountains? No. Rolling countryside? yes. Beaches? Yes. Warmer water? Yes
3. The lifestyle: because of the warmer weather sitting and eating outside is more popular and of course easier to do than in other parts of the UK.
4. Entertainment: There is a wide variety of entertainment in villages, towns and cities, some of which is unique to the south coast.
5. Access: Road and Rail access is very good to many places along the south coast, with several airports as well.
Not sure that is entirely true re the weather - the effect of the Gulf Stream means that much of the west coast of Scotland is as warm as the south coast of England because it keeps the sea warmer. Of course this does at times mean that it can be rainier because of the mountains. I might be biased of course given that I live up in Scotland

What part of the South do you actually mean? Kent? East Sussex? West Sussex? Hampshire?
Anywhere along the south coast. From Hastings to lands end. Each county has something to Offer. I have traveled extensively in these areas. So if you have a question I might be able to give an answer.
Mountains? - well, NO, but try climbing some of the Tors on Dartmoor...
