hello all ,
we are going to las vegas on the 19th oct and are staying at the luxor ,any info on the hotel etc i.e tower or pyramids ??? whats the room service like ?? pool ?? would be gratefully received , also which tours / shows are the best ?? and any recommendations as regards to restaurants .
thanks
Went to Luxor 2 years ago, we found tower rooms best overlooking airport, really great sized bathroom and shower. Restaurant on Casino floor level we found was excellent value and good food for both breakfast and dinner, didn't rate the downstairs buffet style eat all u can but that may be just our personal preference. Very good pool just out back, very similar to the one shown on the Las Vegas show on sky1. Plenty of other hotels/casinos within walking distance, taxi ride to other end of strip about $10. Make sure you spend some dollars on the slots and order free drinks (just a tip) to the serving girls. Very exciting we you hear the bells when someone wins a big amount.
Have a great trip, sure you will love it.
Mike
We also saw Mystere at Treasure Island which also was brilliant!
The pool area is OK with plenty of space, only drawback sometimes some pools cordoned off at certain times of the day (lack of life guards) possibly time of the year?
Enjoy!

The pool may well be cornered off at that time , we went begining of Nov once and the pools were shut, however it all depends on the weather.
The tower rooms are newer and bigger, the mandalay bay has a great cafe for breakfast when you get a bit bored of the pyramid cafe at the luxor. Also walking through to the MB is a burger restaraunt where you can choose what meat and fillings you want in a burger and they are divine.

thanks to you all for your replies ,much appreciated !!!! , did wonder about the pool actually so thanks for that info !!, seems like the tower is the best bet !!! can you also tell me how long it took to check in ,have read quite a few bad reports about the length of time it took ,some people where saying it took 2 hours to check in !!!!!!! oh oh and did any of you go to the grand canyon???
We did the BlueMan group show together with a dinner package at the Luxor Steakhouse for $179 per head, which was good value as the meal in the Steakhouse was very good and the decor and service was excellent.
We alos dined there another night which was very good.
For the heilpcopter tour try papillon tours as we them to be excellent and can be booked via a travel agent or through their website.
One tip learn how to play video poker from one of the tutorial sites as you can play these machines for a long time without losing much money as the percentages can be in your favour if you play correctly and then tip the cocktail waitress at least a dollar a drink and hey presto cheap night out on the lash in Vegas!!!!!!!!1
We stayed in aug last year and check in was very quick. We arrived about 10pm and nearly all the check in counters were open. We stayed in pyramid rooms but had to be moved as the first room was right above the nightclub and as we walked in the room was shaking! We moved a couple of floors up on the other side but found it was really noisy throughout all the night. I had to put the air con full blast to drown out the sound of the slot machines. If I went again I would definately try the towers. Have a great vacation!
thanks for all your info , much appreciated !!!! >mx > when you say tutorial sites ???what and where are they cause i think ill need them ,not much good at gambling , actually have never even had a go on a slot machine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . we land at 12.30 pm so im guessing thats its gonna be busy !!!! at check in . rachie > thanks fopr your info have deffo decided to stay in the towers now , also do either of you know what the nightclub is like ???
We stopped at luxor as well, yes tower rooms are less noisy room service is fine but expensive like most hotels. Vegas is a 24 hour place i dont think u will b in your room alot we was'nt. Try the Excalibur hotel next door for the buffet it was awesome and very reasonable and you can walk there or get the monorail.I think the pool might be shut it tends to be seasonal but you never no. Defo visit the grand canyon it took our breath away, and also the Hoover dam tour was good. We have been 3 times now and each time we find something new. My tip is take your time but fill your days as there is so much to see and take a walk down the strip and go into all the hotels u fancy. Enjoy
The tutorial site is to play a number of casino games is wizardofodds.com
http://www.wizardofodds.com
(i typed www(dot)wizardofodds(dot)com with real dots rather than (dot)!!! )
Then fly down the back of the strip all lit up, I still get goosebumps thinking about it and I went in Feb 2002
thanks to all whoi have replied ,think i will deffo do the canyon helicopter trip ,it sounds fabulous .
We went to Vegas end September 2004 and went to the pool at the Luxor every day, it is massive, never any problems getting sun beds and free pool towels are provided. If it is really hot get sunbeds around the edges near the cabanas as they have misters spraying cool water on you, lovely!
Cheers.
I was told to request a tower room as the pyramid ones leak badly when it rains
we stayed in the pyramid rooms and that would explain the strange smell! I would opt for the Tower rooms next time, as the pyramid rooms were in the middle of all the action and sleeping was impossible (night or day) because of the noise. Fantastic hotel though, have a great time!!
I stayed in the pyramid and immediately noticed a bit of a strange smell to the room, not an offensive smell but strange.
I was never long in to the room before my nose always got blocked up, and I always wakened during the night severl times with a stuffed up nosed, but as soon as I left the hotel during the day I was fine.
Several other people have also mentioned that the rooms in the tower blocks are bigger.
The hotel itself is fine, but I wouldn't stay in the pyramid again, I would request a tower room.

When we checked in the girl told us that if we wanted to change room or anything else we were just to call her. When we got to our pyramid room, it was very nice, but our view was on to the runway of the airport, so we got changed to a tower room. It was much bigger than the pyramid room and much nicer, looked a lot newer too. So yes, I too would definately go for the tower room.
Agree with the previous posters - I would opt for a tower room over the pyramid. I had a great room last time in the tower - but was lucky to have been upgraded - living room, small kitchen area, large bathroom, plus bedroom of course.
