After a lot of flicking through brochures we have booked our holiday to Skopelos. In all of the brochures it sounds wonderful, I was just hoping that someone on here could reassure me, and maybe give me some top tips of restaurants/trips etc"¦ also, we are staing in skopleos town as we are not bothered about beaches, and are staying in the Evlalia studios, any reviws would be great.
Thanks
Charlie
found some piccies of your acommodation here:
I don't have any personal experience of Skopelos, but my daughter and s-i-l went there last year and thought it was absolutely wonderful. She was brought up on Greek holidays and has been to quite a few different places, but seemed to think that Skopelos was the best so far.
thank you both for replying. yes, we have booked with kosmar, although i dont reccomed them as a company. i am currently following up a complaint i have with them and they are being far from helpful!!!!!
do you have any other greek reccomendations for next year? we love beautiful harbours, winding streets full of shops, waterfalls and mountanous walks.

Kosmar. Went to Greece with them once - never again Long story!!
As for other reccomendations. From your discrpition, try Santorini. It has some stunning views and all the photos you see of blue churches and winding streets are taken here. There is also a mountain you can can walk up which is in the resort of Perissa with a church half way up. At the top is the ancient city of Thira.
we went to Santorini for the first time last July and had a wonderful 2 weeks!
We enjoyed Samos very much and it seems to have everything you're looking for. These photos are quite old, but should give you an idea of the island -
Its interesting to hear peoples different experiences, i went to greece with libra and after an incident it was the kosmar reps that came to our rescue, since then i have always booked with them and am more than happy
Evryone to their own i suppose!

Too true! We've had 5 holidays with Simply Travel in the past and couldn't recommend them highly enough. But my daughter and s-i-l went to Tenerife with them in November (on our recommendation ) and had a disastrous holiday. Not entirely Simply's fault, but enough to put them off for life.
A gorgeous restaurant - the Kastro - up the winding steps behind the church at the far side of the harbour.
If you get the bus to Glossa at the north of the island there is a beautiful restaurant with the most amazing views of Evia. We had tea there one evening and got the last bus back. Try the feta in filo pastry with honey...mmmmmm!
Trips - A marine boat trip is a must. The area is protected b/c of the seals and there are lots of guided trips. We set out about 8am and returned at sunset - we saw loads of dolphins...wonderful day out.
You can also visit the neighbouring island of Alonissos - tiny and so pretty. I could happily have stayed there forever.
I'm sure you'll have a great time...
For next year - how about Symi? It has everything you are looking for, and possibly the most beautiful harbour in the whole of Greece
A cheap excursion is to take the bus to Loutraki the port at the other end of the island, this will give you a view of everywhere that's inhabited, also most beaches can be accessed from this road.
The old part of Skopelos town is relatively unchanged apart from the smarted & tarted bars on the harbour side.
For next year I would suggest a combination of Ikaria, Fourni and Samos, this cannot be done on a package but it is easier from last year as ferries (Samos Star, Samos Sun) connections have improved. Waterfalls can be found in the islands.... just follow my suggestion.
Just noticed your posting in January, you may have already been there if not we stayed there in June last year. Will give you some info if needed
Thank you for taking the time to reply!!! we go to Skopelos in 4 weeks so no, we havent gone yet, really excited though! where abouts did you stay?
also, anything you can tell me would be great, we love waterfalls, waking, nice restaurants etc.....
Thanks

When you arrive at Skopelos on the boat if you look over to the left you can see a pink building, that is where the owners live and also rent out some of it, We were in the older building to the right. The nearest shop was about a quarter of an hour walk you just walk down the hill and you are at the harbour, then just carry on round the water to the centre. The studios were basic as you expect in Greece but we had no problems at all. If you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor you get lovely views over the town. The evenings were lovely all the locals out walking the pavement artists, lovely little shops, not your tat tourist type. We did bus to some of the beaches, but they are very shingly pebbly. We just liked the pool. There are some lovely little bars. There is one with great views over the port, it is up by the church at the other side of the harbour. Anyway I have gone on a bit hope you enjoy. If you need any other info would be glad to help if I can
just a couple of questions....
1. did all the rooms have sea views?
2. do the rooms have air conditioning?
3. do you know if you can go to athens for day? hubby really wants to do this!
4. did you go to skiathos or allonisos and if so what did you think compared to skoples?
Thanks

Hi Monkeychops - we have been to Skiathos a couple of times and going back in 4 weeks time. We did the boat trip to Skopolos and it really is beautiful. We talked about going there this year - but Skiathos won again! Have you tried Skiathos? There are many winding streets, monastries and various boat trips, plenty of wonderful beaches and especially in Skiathos town, 2 lovely linked harbours, surrounded with bars restaurants and little shops, plus all the side streets have bars and shops its fab just wandering at night after a lovely meal - when is it you're going?
hi we have been to skopelos for about the last 5 years and going back in sept ,stayed at evlalia last june lovely clean rooms well kept just about the right walk from town far enough to be quiet but not to far (5 min) walk , not all rooms have a sea view but most do, you can get to athens by flying dolphin i think its 7.00 a.m from the port try to miss friday morning as that is transfer day and to dolphin will be packed out. skopelos town is lovely tavernas selling the normal food from greek to the more usual pizza/spagetti etc try the garden taverna for nice change the food is relly good and the setting is lovely fo find it go behind the bakers opposite the harbour walk straight across missing out the gyro stalls just as you go up a small path the entrance is on the right in a small gate . there are no beaches in skopelos town worth using try staphylos by bus ,car ,bike or you can walk if you must down the old road in the olive trees about 45 min walk. but the beach is very busy . if you have transport try limoneria go past agnontas then turn left half way up the hill going out of the village it is a nice little cove which was sandy 2 years ago but a little shingle last year ( let me know how it is now if you go) there is 2 small tavernas and a few beds if you want them this beach is used alot by the locals and remains not busy so far . hope you like your stay kev. p.s just ask if you want to know anything but we are off to paros on friday for 2 weeks ta.
The ground floor rooms do not have a sea view. Can't remember whether you could have air con, whether there was a unit. We didn't need it. Don't know about the trip to Athens, we did that on a holiday from Aegina. We found Skopelos from visiting on a boat trip from Skiathos where we have stayed twice. Skiathos is best for beaches which Skopelos lacks, but I much prefer Skopelos for the harbour on an evening, much more going on.
i will try and reply to all 3 of you at once as i am at work at the mo and dont have much free time!
we have been to skiathos before but it was about 10 years ago and i have heard it is still amazing but a lot busier now, so decided on skopleos for this reason as i had heard it is like skaithos used to be. We dont really do beaches so that isnt a problem for us, although we will probably take a trip for some photo oportunities!!
thanks for your suggestions re tavernas, i will print them off now and take them with me!!!
enjoy paros, and i will send you all an update when i get back!
Thanks again.
Monkeychops xx
