I came back from my holiday a while ago and did write a long post but then the computer froze and I lost it. Note to myself- remember to write long posts on Word and keep saving! So its a short version this time.
We went back to the Ionian Aura which is at the top of the hill, beyond the Balcony hotel. Love it- surrounded by olive groves with a cottage behind with some animals. Luckily the cockerel had no idea of the time and so kept crowing during the day( and not at dawn thank goodness). The room we had was one of the updated ones with a beautiful outlook towards the sea. It actually has a shower cubicle so no wet floors like you usually get in Greece. It had a fridge but no other kitchen things. I think the other types of room do have, but we weren't caring. It had a/c and a fan. The room was cleaned every day. There was breakfast included which had the usual things plus a dish from the menu that day. She is a good cook. One of the best things though is the pool. There were plenty of sunbeds and no matter what time of day it was, you would find empty sunbeds.
Walk down the hill and take a short cut down steps to get to the beach and our favourite bar- Barracuda. They had sets of sundbeds and a brolly for 7 euros. The sand area was immaculate and they kept beach sellers away. Loved the music there and also they did lovely lunches.
We were hoping to escape the rain but arrived to find the bar and restaurant owners were worried about the weather warning which several islands had as well. 8 hours of thunder and lightening! I have been in some storms before but never an 8 hour one. So day 3 at 3pm , as predicted it started. Watching from inside the room( not going in the balcony) it was actually quite scarey and I began to worry about flooding in the village. Suddenly though at 7pm someone hit the off switch and it just stopped. A bit of a relief! We went into the village and had something to eat and a few drinks then looked at the sky and made our way quickly back to the hotel, arriving just as the first rain fell again!. Woke up next day to sun and cloudless skies and that continued till we left.
Will write more about what there is in Tsilivi tomorrow*( hopefully !)
We were in Tenerife once when a Calima descended. All of a sudden everything went still & the sky, air, everywhere had a yellow tinge to it. Really spooky atmosphere, I thought the end of the world was nigh 🌍😳
Look forward to reading your next instalment.
We first visited Tsilivi in the 80s( several times) but only returned last year. I was worried I wouldn't like all the changes but to be honest it hasn't changed that much. There are more AI hotels though, which I think is a shame. There are some fabulous restaurants and bars to try. We did see a lot of coloured wristbands in restaurants though.
We enjoy a lot of the grilled dishes and also things from the oven like kleftico.
We only had one so so meal and that was actually one of the top rated in TA. I do sometimes wonder how restaurants are rated there One of my favourites was Zorbas. If you go try their chicken special
Our favourite was also last year's one. Look for the grill which has locals eating at it. It is opposite Traffic bar( which was there in the 80s with the same family running it) Kosolovo is also family run and the grill serves melt in the mouth food. It's also way down TAs list.
If you want nightclubs don't go to Tsilivi- it's not that sort of place. But there is some entertainment in the bars. I would say it is more of a couples place.
We will return but perhaps not in the immediate future. Time to try new places!
