PS want to make a fortune???? Open an English school in Marmaris!!!!!!!
Would love to do English lessons chelseaboy, but can't commit to being away from UK too long. However, have 2 weeks in May in Icmeler if you know anybody needing getting up to speed before main season.
Take the plunge and leave the old country. Form a school based on the english curriculum and run it how it should be run, not the way they are in the UK. Discipline and manners are still the norm here and long may it continue.(guess Im showing my age!!!)
i have just sold my house in the uk and am now ready to buy a house in or around marmaris.i have got a 2 week holiday booked for the 13th may and i was hoping to be able to find a long term rent while i look for a house so that me and my family dont have to come back.i would appreciate any help that i can get as i have been told and read lots of conflicting things.i have been to turkey about 15 times so i am realistic about what to expect but i am still really nervous.
You should be able to find a long term let whilst you are there for 2 weeks - Its still early on in the season so will be OK
What conflicting info have you recd?? Maybe if you share your concerns you might be able to get clarification on this site
There is a HT user Chelsea Boy - He has took the plunge and now lives in Marmaris - I see he gave you some info on your earlier post about schools - Im sure if you have any direct queries he will be more than happy to help
Good luck in your new move. We have our own place over in Marmaris - but will be a few years before we can move over permenantly- Just happy with a few hols each year for now
Cheers

my main concerns are schools, bank accounts and residency visas.
i also hope that we wont have a problem buying a house with the new law the goverment are planning.
well i have done it my house has sold and i have booked my flights for the 13th may.
I cant help you with the residency visa or schools - But other users should be able to direct you on this
With respect to the new rule on foreigners buying land/property - there was mass confusion when this came out early in the week - however although not definite - it seems like they are bringing in a rule which stop foreign businesses buying up huge land areas etc - Dont think it will affect your average Joe Bloggs(aka me and you) whos only interest is a home/holiday home. But the new rules are still unclear
Opening a Bank account should be easy - Get your tax number and you should be away - You will probaby find this is one of the easier tasks

Hi again
Just came acc this link for long term rentals - Not sure what price you were expecting and how this compares. Though you should note the estate agents charge quite a hefty chunk in commission

You will find opening a bank account easy once you have your local address but check that you could use a uk one. I'm with Finansbank along the road behind Tansas, and they will get you a Tax number, I believe the other banks you have to do this yourself. Once you have your Tapu( deeds) then you can apply for a residence permit, a bit long winded and costs a far amount, but better than day trips to Rhodes every 3 months. If you want to pm me, then I can write in greater detail, if not ask Chelsea Boy as he lives in Marmaris and knows the processes well. I hope he doen't mind me mentioning him - I'll wait for the back lash
tax number no problem, residency longwinded but can help you no problem. long term let no problem got a few just let me know what size you require.
estate agents charge 10% but at least you get a contract and no hassle with electric and water charges. good idea to rent for a while to get a feel for the place.
Penny ... no worries just wish i had Ht to help me before making the plunge.... still better late than never!

Suggestion if you are not looking for a brand new villa or off plan stuff but say an apartment in Marmaris look for one thats for sale/rent then rent it for 1 year and if you decide you like it buy it and negotiate your rent money back-or at least some of it.
