We are going on a cruise round the med on the Island escape on the 29th March.
We would like to go from Civitavecchia to Rome by train as it is a lot cheaper than the cruise coach.
I remember reading in a review the way to do it by train ,directions etc but cannot find the review anywhere.
Can anybody help.

We have done this twice with no problems. The train cost €6.40 when we did it.

Is this correct.

You may find our cruise forum useful or try typing Med DIY or Island Escape into the Search facility at the top of the page to find further info on your cruise:

Thanks for that Lesley.
We were on a cruise last year and had planned to visit Rome DIY with train from Civitavecchia.
When we got off the ship there was a courtesy bus into the town centre which we had just started to queue for. There were 4 people getting into a people carrier taxi and shouted over did anyone want to join them, they were going to Rome for the day.
We went over to speak to them, and they had agreed the taxi driver for the whole day who would take us to all the places of interest in Rome. The cost was negotiated down to 200Euros for the day.
To cut a long story short we were ripped off big time by that taxi driver. We basically got 2 hours in Rome and were back at the ship by 2.30. The taxi driver did not speak very good English, drove like a complete maniac. We were in a difficult postition as we had not negotiated the deal ourself. It basically cost us 75Euros (yes a tip was given) per couple for 2 hours in Rome.
However on saying that we met others on the ship who had done a simlar thing and had a great, full day as promised. One family even had the taxi driver take them to the best Pizza place where he reserved Pizza and table for them, and the best ice cream place in Rome.
Think we were just very unlucky with the one we got. However we have learned a lesson that we will never do that again, and would stick to our original DIY plan.
Talking to others on the ship alot did Rome DIY by way of the train and encountered no problems.
I have changed the name and date in my earlier posting with the link to shiphappens, sorry about that.
