Hi There,

Hurghada, nearly all year round has a breeze which helps with the heat of the sun. If there is no wind, yes it can get hot but not as hot as Luxor or Aswan.

As long as the kids have a high factor sunscreen, wear some sort of hat and short sleeved t-shirt, they should be okay.

All hotels are air-conditioned, usually controllable in each room.

Don't worry, come and enjoy.

But Hurghada is a miserable place to stay, if you have any choice (or unless you want to go to Luxor) go to the Red Sea coast by Sharm instead

Recently returned from Hurghada. Had a really enjoyable holiday at Grand Resort Hotel. Yes, some of the place looks like a building site but would go back there tomorrow if I could....

So Alanrowell thinks Hurghada is a miserable place? His opinion thankfully is in the minority. Perhaps it is not the place that has the problem!

I take it you won't be returning then.

I know its probably been covered but, can anyone please tell where the nightlife area is and what there is. Are there plenty pubs/ restuarants, entertainment, enough to keep a 7 and 10 year old happy. In recent years have been to paphos, protaris, benidorm, alcudia. Is it in any way similar to these resorts. thanks for any help

Very little entertainment for the children, but there is the Titanic Resort and Aquapark which has water slides. They would probably enjoy that.

Lots of bars/restaurants/cafes/bistros for you to enjoy.

If there is anything else drop me a pm and I will do my best to help.

Had a wee look-up the web for jags and think it's probably too late now so will just hope I'm ok!

Will be taking plenty of imodium though just incase!!!!

That's good re the rooms - let's hope they're still doing that as nothing worse than getting chucked out of your room and all your cases are left lying about......yet when they ask at the airport if you'veleft your luggage unattended at any time, you always say no don't you!

Hi Jan :D

Hi Gull, 30 day's and counting, got the f30 suncream on saturday and plug in mozzie killer don't know if we will need it, did you have bother with mozzies the last time you where there?
As we have not been to Egypt before not sure of the dress code i know to cover arms in markets and temples but what do you wear at night do i leave the strappy tops at home :?:

We didn't have much bother at all at the hotel with misquitos as they have these lights to kill mosquitos outside your room in the gardens and they also send smoke bombs off every day to kill them as well. But if you go into the dessert you will probably get attacked as it can't be help so take some mozzie killer just incase. As for dress code, as long as you cover up your shoulders when you leave the hotel you are ok but in the hotel you can wear bikini's, swimcostumes etc and that is ok, normally cover up with a sarong when going to the bars etc and for lunch during the day.
Hope this helps, anymore questions just ask away.

Hi Wee John

Well a must is definately Gifton Island, also known as Paradise Island, the trip we book was with the hotel and we got picked up at the hotel, taken to the marina and boarded a lovely yatch, you are given snorkelling gear (Forgot to say this is not a scuba diving trip), you have your lunch and drinks on board, you go to 2 reefs and Paradise Island, you spend an hour or so there, which is just fantastic. Very relaxing day, you don't have to go in the water if you don't want to you can just stay on the boat.
Another trip which we done was quad biking in the arabian dessert, booked it outside the hotel, again they picked you up, then you were taken to the dessert where you picked up your quad bike and guide and off you went, your food was included and you watched the sunset in the arabian dessert on the way home, Excellent!!!!
They were the only trips that we done as we were only there for a week and the rest was spend just chilling out. But there is the pyramid trips etc but they are quite long journeys are we are a bit far away from Luxor etc.

Hope this helps

I am setting of for Hurghada on Friday, first time visit. I have a couple of questions. Are there ATM's in Hurghada or should I get my money before I go ? and where are the best places to go at night for eating and drinking?

There is definately one outside The Grand and there are sure to others elsewhere. There was a tourist policeman by the side of the machine at all times. It is possible to have English screen but I made a mistake and ended up with the Arabic one the first time I used it - the policeman sorted me out but expected a tip for doing so - it might be a good idea to have small change with you for this!

You get a better rate of exchange in Egypt than in the UK but I always change a small amount here first.

Have a good holiday!

Hi-ya folks!

I'm just back from the Siva Grand Beach too and had a great time! In fact, turns out I was sitting next to KatieLinds on the plane back home - small world eh!

Once I get around to it I'll also be posting a review but can say just now that the hotel is lovely and really enjoyed getting my own juice whilst hubby poured his own beer!

Hope you all enjoy Hurghada and the Siva.......can't believe I'm back in Glasgow and it's pee-ing of rain! Aarrhghggh!
