I've not been to Calella or Lloret for years but I know that the beach at Lloret is gentler than Calella which seems to be steep into the water. Depends if you're planning to have the kids running in and out of the water and spending loads of time on the beach. The beach at Lloret is very crowded but wider. You have to go under a tunnel to get to the beach at Calella because there is a train track running right next to the beach. I am going just up the coast with four teenagers and it's ideal for them because they can hop on and off the train but you'd have to keep a real eye on little ones.

There is a bus from Lloret direct to one of the water parks.

Both resorts are going to be full of party animals I imagine. Have you looked on the hotel profiles. I found that even though the hotel I'm going to isn't mentioned the people writing about the other hotels in the resort make comments about the resort itself. Bit of a hard decision to make but I'm sure both resorts have their pro's and cons.

Good Luck

We went to Calella in march of this year and although quiet at the time they were getting ready to open with beach front bars etc.

We did not go into Lloret as my husband has been before and does not like it.

There is lots to do in Calella and the shops are great (a mix of old and new).

We are going back to Calella in September with our 3 year old as it was a great place, clean and tidy.

It's true about the train track but there are plenty of walkways to get you to the beach and there are a lot of little alcoves (accessible by climbing a few rocks, mind you don't go to far or you'll stumble on the naturist beach). The beach at Calella is not really a sandy beach though.

I would go for Calella if it was me (well I am).

Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll enjoy it as a holiday is what you make it.

Hi Kelly, Just got back from Calella and we had a great time, The shops at night are brill, about a 1 mile long walk down a straight road, traffic free. The train station on the front takes you up and down the coast for about 2 euros, go out and explore the other resorts like Santa Susana on market days, there are plenty of places to take the kids, you should all enjoy. Happy Days :D

Go for Calella. Yes you have to pass beneath the rail line to reach the beach but is only a 2 minute walk away from the hotel catalonia. Word of warning be careful of traffic as hotel is on a busy main road, but also the hotel in Lloret is on a main road. The food in the Catalonia is reputed to be one of the best in the resort. Some of the Ferrari mechanics stayed there this year when the spanish grand prix was on so cant be all bad.

Is not quite as wild as Lloret although there is plenty of nightlife if you want it and a good selection of family bars. Try Papas Bar , excellent food and english speaking bar staff, also if you enjoy karaoke then go to beach boys, both bars 5 minutes walk away from the hotel.

Brill market on a wednesday and also go to market on sunday in Tordera.
free buses run to water world and marine land. train station 15 minute walk away or get the tractor train

I arrived home today and went to both visiting. Calella is a lot quieter than LLoret. LLoret seems very "touristy" comparerd to Calella. Didnt go at night so cant say how rowdy it gets but both seem nice but i prefered calella, stuff to do but not over busy
