Hi,

I too would be interested in anyones experience staying at these apartments. The few reviews I did find had good things to say. The only thing that seemed to piss people off was the fact they charge you 1 euro a day to use the sun lougers by the pool (which I agree is a bit tight considering its your apartment!)

What was Stalis like when you went? I was looking at that but was wondering if it would be too quiet.

Cheers

I personally loved Stalis! It was nice and quiet during the day, but still busy if that makes sense?! There are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to visit, and the beach is absolutely gorgeous :) The people are really friendly and nothing you ask is too much for them. The night life is quieter than Malia, but it still has a brilliant atmosphere, and thankfully-unlike Malia-there are hardly any PR's trying to drag you into the bars, but the bar staff will ply you with free shots as soon as you walk through the door...which is always good! I would recommend a visit to The Dolphin bar and The Royal Oak (i think it's called that anyway!) and the Chinese restaurant-never tasted food so delicious before! If it turns out that Stalis is too quiet, then Malia is literally 2 or 3 minutes away in a taxi costing about 5 or 6 euros. You can walk it, but the drivers over there are a bit crazy, and unfortunately the quickest way to get there is on the main highway-which is never good when your feeling tipsy! I would suggest starting your night off in Stalis, as the partying starts earlier than in Malia, and then making your way to Malia for the clubs. All in all, fantastic holiday, people and food!

Hope this has helped

Ps. When are you thinking about going? Because we went the last week in August, and the weather was well over 100! And unfortunately when i go back this year, i'm going at the same time because my boyfriend is a sun worshipper!!

Hi Laura, nice to read your comments on Stalis. My wife and I are going to Crete for the first time in July and stopping at The Koni Village in Stalis.

Regarding the Maria Rousse have you seen their web site available through http://www.malia.co.uk/mariarousse/

Looked at the place before deciding to plump for the quieter life of Stalis over Malia (although even at our extremely advanced age we might just see Malia every other night !)

Thanks for that link :) it's just nice to see where you're going instead of being one of those people on the coach that when the bus stops you end up praying that the little run down shack they call a hotel isn't the one your staying at! hee hee

I've found a video of the Maria Rousse aswell on http://www.thomson.co.uk and thankfully the rooms look nice and clean

Thanks for that laura, much appreciated.

Me and a mate of mine are thinking of going mid to late May. Last year we went to Zante, we stayed in Kalamaki, but were only a short trip from the party town of Laganas. Which worked out well for us.

It seems that Stalis has a similar thing with Malia (within walking distance). Do you know if you can walk to Malia via the beach?

When you off to Malia?

I definitely think you would love Stalis. I can't think of any faults with it. Other than it being so hot-but obviously that's not Stalis's fault! lol

We never tried to get to Malia by walking on Beach Road (because we were too lazy!), but i know you can get there because there is a little train thing that we hopped on that took us down Beach Road to Malia. If you're going to walk there at night, i'd just watch out because it's not the best lit road in the world and we'd heard from our Rep just to keep your wits about you. I'm not trying to put you off! It's just the same as any other place really-i certainly don't walk round my home town on my own at night, and i wouldn't do anywhere else!

As i said before though, Stalis and Malia are both really great places to go, both offering totally different experiences, but both fantastic all the same!

Oh also just out of interest, whats the beach like a Malia? I've heard people say the beach at Stalis is very good, but not heard much talk about the Malia beach.

I'm guessing its because people in Malia have to much of a hangover to visit/remember the beach :)
Thanks again for your help.

Cheers

To be honest the beach at Malia is okay, but the one at Stalis is soooooo much nicer! Its cleaner, the water is bright blue, and the atmosphere is good. There's a few water sports to do at Stalis, not sure about Malia though. Stalis beach is narrow but long and even in August when it's supposed to be really busy, it wasn't. Lots of the bars and restaurants that back onto the beach offer deals like 2 sunbeds, an umbrella and a cocktail for 3 or 4 euros each, but the best one we found was 3 sunbeds, 1 umbrella and a meal each for 6 euros! It was really nice too! So its worth haggling! The beach at Malia is noisy and there are a lot of drunken idiots...it kind of smells of fish aswell which isn't that good!

It really depends what you want from your holiday...

If you want busy, fun, hardly any PR's and without being too overcrowded, then Stalis is the place to be-you can always go to Malia later at night when that starts to pick up at about 10pm/11pm. The other good thing about Stalis is that if you want the noise all day and night, then it's easy to find, but you can also avoid it too. However, in Malia you have no choice! IT'S LOUD!!!

Oh, i'm going to Malia at the end of August again - 28th aug to 4th sept.
I didn't really want to go back this year, i wanted to leave it a couple of years just so i can go elsewhere and compare, but my boyfriend is crazy when it comes to going out and drinking, and i know with the nightlife Malia has to offer, it definitely is the place for him! He went to Magaluf two years ago, and i've promised him that Malia will beat Spain hands down! Lets just hope he agrees with me lol

:) GL with the drinking.

I guess I'm after a mix, nice chilled out day and a good atmosphere of a night time. Stalis sounds like the ideal place. You telling me the beach smells of fish and full of drunken idiots has put me off a little. I can get drunken idiots down the local :)
Hope your holiday goes well, if I book it up I'll pop back and let you know how it was.

Sorry for putting you off!

I was just being truthful-better than you getting there to find out i've been lying! lol

I think you'll have an absolutely fantastic time in Stalis, but i definitely think you should go to Malia at least once-afterall, you can't be that close to Malia and not visit it!

If you end up going, then i hope you have a wicked time and don't drink too much Raki!!!

Oh no you haven't put me off, and I'll imagine I'll be in Malia pretty much every night. Just nice to have a bit of distance from the madness when I've got a bad head :)

hi Jen

Thanks for that link-i just like to see where i'm going before i get there to make sure it's not where all the cockroaches go on holiday too!
Especially this time, as i left the decision of where to stay up to my boyfriend...and he chose Maria Rousse based on the fact that it was "little and white"!! He's mad bless him lol! God help me when we get married hehe

Anyhoo, back to the topic!

I've also managed to find video footage of these apartments on Thomson's website. The room's look basic, but clean and they have air-conditioning, so that's plenty good enough for me...oh, and there's a balcony big enough for my boyfriend to be kicked onto for when he's recovering (to you and me, that's been very sick!) from the night before!

Thanks again

Maria Rousse apartments weren't actually that bad when i went in 2002. I have stayed in better places but the rooms were clean (and cleaned regularly); the pool was clean and the location was really good.

It's about a 2 minute walk to the main strip with loads of bars and clubs etc. The beach is a bit of a hike away but still walkable. And worth visiting. The sea was amazingly clear and calm. You have to pay for the sunbeds but the guy selling is great. Also; there was another guy selling doughnuts along the beach who i swear was Mr Miagi from the Karate Kid!!

To be honest i wouldn't go back to Malia; in 2002 it was heading towards Faliraki kind of status so i imagine it'll be far more touristy and commercialised now. But i had a brilliant holiday at the time and haven't got anything to complain about. I'm sure you'll have a great holiday. 8)

does anyone know if the Maria ROusse still charge for sunbeds? (the TO website that I have just booked with says free airbeds!)

Also, anybody got any idea how much the room deposit is?
