The exception is probably for larger hotel chains like H10 Group, Sol Melia, Barcelo etc where they offer a club (like discount club for frequent visitors of their hotels).
It's entirely up to you, if I were you I'd at least pop into the hotel your interested in when you visit and ask for their rates for your next holiday then make your mind up closer to the time by comparing them to the price to book through a supplier.
But the downfall of booking direct is you have no point of contact in this country if something goes tits, like an overbooking by the hotel meaning you then have to find alternative accommodation whilst in resort. That is of course unless the hotel offers you an alternative.

There are a few accommodation places in Benidorm itself like Benidorm Reservations Centre which you could also check with as I remember the prices seemed cheaper over there than on their website here. Also I know some apartments won't let you book direct because of block bookings by travel and accommodation agents, as a few years back I went into Levante clubs apartments and ask could I book them myself only to be told no I would have to go via an agent. Maybe things have changed since more people are doing DIY. Karen
